Mod Q&A Thread II

I would like to know why we had the old rpgs taken away....and I'd like a better answer then what I got a while ago.

I think that the mods decided that the RPG scene was getting somewhat out of control. There were so many active RPG's in the forum that it was getting impossible to moderate them. Furthermore, as this is a forum about Narnia, I believe they decided the RPG section should be, well, more Narnia-themed.

To quote EveningStar on the matter:

Yes, the subject matter of most of the RPG's was not relevant enough to the forum. This is a NARNIA forum, after all. In order to assure that the rpg's can be properly controlled, maintained, and played without dying out in a week, a Mod task force compiled of the most patient and strong-willed mods (this would not be me, as I am not patient in the slightest) worked incredibly hard to get the area to where it is now. This also saves space on the forum, as there are about 100 less threads occupying precious space that could be used to create a Mod Fan Club (*winkwink*) or even a Spork Appreciation Thread.

Whatever the reason, the forum is much better off. :)

But weren't the forums supposed to be a place where we could all go and have fun. I dont think it's fun anymore and I know several others who agree.

Couldn't there be someway it could be worked out to a limit of a few rpgs then when one dies remove that and do another instead of the way it's currently being done?

I think it would be better that way... but then again... who cares what I think.

There is still an off-topic section for non-Narnia-themed RPGs. I think, however, that what the mods don't want is a forum with 75 threads in it, in which half of the threads are highly similar (yet ANOTHER Harry Potter/HSM/whatever RPG!). Furthermore, the volume of threads in the old DT forum (many of which, again, were very like other ones) made it hard to moderate them. Furthermore, the RPG environment tends to lend itself to the sort of things that the moderators don't like (heated arguments between members, inappropriate content, etc.) Without careful moderation, RPG threads can easily get out of hand. I think that the mods were keeping in mind the fact that the is a Narnia forum, and as such RPGs may be fun, but they shouldn't take up so much of the mods' time that they start neglecting the rest of the forum.

You could probably find an RPG forum somewhere that has less limited RPGs.

We do care what you think, Frodosgirl, and don't ever think any different; we're simply just trying to do what is best for this forum. If our intentions were to truly ignore all of your suggestions, insights, etc., then this forum would cease to be successful. Many of the changes made to this forum were born from the ideas of members, like yourself.

The reform of the RPG section was not something we did without planning and discussing. Like I mentioned before, this is a forum dedicated to The Chronicles of Narnia. While I know Narnia is not the only thing people love and wish to talk about, seeing as it is the main focus of this forum, it makes sense to have Role playing games about Narnia; not about High school dating or living in New York City. I am aware that those RPG's were fun (as I myself took part in many of them), however, like Olorin said, there were too many duplicates and too many failing RPG's that unneccesarily took up oodles of space on our forum.

Also like Olorin said, if Role playing is very important to you, but you do not wish to RP about Narnia, there are many role playing sites where you can role play about anything from being an aardvark trapped in a pre-school to vampire hunting on the Pacific coast. The RPG's here are at Narniafans are solely about Narnia, and I'm afraid that is how it will remain.

My personal favorite is Top Gear,:D but I don't know any other programmes that they show.:(

Top Gear is indeed a quality show. Here in the UK we have a channel called Dave which is basically a 'man channel' and they show lots of Top Gear as well as Dragon's Den and QI and Mock the Week etc... Its my fave channel.

I hate that it's a man channel. It's my favourite channel! Which means I'm a man :(

The closest thing we have to a 'man' channel here in the US is called Spike...otherwise, it's all pretty spread out.

lol, nonsense, we are woMEN. The wonderful spelling gives us the ability to watch whatever we please.;) If anyone is limited on what they can watch it is men, because they lack the 'Wo'.

Dave was named as such because apparently everyone in the UK knows someone called Dave.

Worked on me.

And I actually know 2 daves :D

BK--that is odd! I guess they can log in . . . since he's doing it . . . . Can't say I like it though. Maybe one of the purples could be induced to delete the account. ;)
