movie predictions

he meant it in a bad way cause, i think, he thinks that the series is doomed as in it is doomed in the first place, so in a way he said it that narnia practically flunks beginning with the books and with the first movie, LWW (sorry, i dont know how to putit down in a short sentence)

also, i am very worried for the 'welfare' of HHB movie because, as what knight of Narnia said, it is too anti-arab to be made (and would definetly cause worldwide controversials) yet, if the moviemakers change the whole story, the magic and creativity of Narnia would be lost (and lose some money)

If you look at Doug's commentary, the Calormene people are not Arab in his eyes. It's easy to read it that way, but it doesn't have to be that way and I'm sure they'll take precautions to handle it well. Keep in mind that Edmund is in that book and thus the movie. They've already said that they want to use the younger cast and Skandar's grandfather speaks to him in Arabic. He's part Turkish and Lebonese. For the family to be ok with him doing that film, they'll have to make sure it's worked out well. They redid the Telmarine race for PC and I have no doubt they'll be careful in what they do with HHB.
do you think Andrew Adamson didn't want to risk lots of money by letting another director make VoDT??? And that he's waiting to see the success to know if he can make TSC or not ??

Andrew took off from VDT because he has 2 small daughters and hasn't hardly seen them since they were babies. He's been working and filming too much. He wants some family time and a break. His career is important, but so are his kids and I have to give him a pat on the back for it. He just moved them bact to New Zealand from Los Angeles because he didn't want them to grow up there. I don't think it's about success of the films for him in this at all. Michael Apted is a good director and can pull it off. Andrew will be a phone call away if they need help with anything from special effects to handling the actors' needs. Apart from that, it is a help right now for them to change directors because of how much trust was lost between the fans and franchise with PC. Andrew may be able to pick up the series again at some point and I'm sure will be forever involved in it as he should be.

i wanted even one of the chronicles to recieve an academy award...

(i do hope this daydream would come true)

Um....well....they already did. The wonderful and amazing Howard Berger and his partner in crime, Tammi won oscars for LWW for the make-up and creature creations.

PC wasn't a flop. It made Disney about 200Mil after covering the cost of the movie, and I think that Disney is actually counting more on DVD sales for its profit than theater tickets (at least that is what the lady at the retail store told me). VotDT, assuming that Michael Apted stays true to what we know of him, ought to be awesome it will boost the series at least for one more movie

thanks Into the Wardrobe for this information piooouf ... I think it's good for him to take a little rest and spend time with his family ;)

I am hopeful that they will complete the series.

I also wish they were a little more sensitive with the changes they are making. They should recognize there are a large number of Narnia fans out there who are not comfortable with some of the changes. For example, I my self am in love with the series and have read each story half-a-dozen times, but I'm getting closer to boycotting the movies-it depends on what they deliver. Some changes are fine. The night raid (good action) could be lived with, I suppose, but the Susan/Caspian kiss was anticlimactic to his romance in "The Voyage of the Dawn Dreador" and just plain silly.

Now rumors of Trumpkin in DT...why? He is a funny actor, but so much for that part of the plot.

humm ... I know, I know those changes are so weird, but the movies are still interesting ... don't you thinkk ??

The movies are interesting to a degree, but when they violate the story line they cause dissonance for those who know and love the stories. For instance, the portrayals of Peter and Reepicheep in Caspian went far beyond an adjustment of the story from page to screen - they were severe violations of the literary identities of both characters.

Like I've said before, being made into a movie isn't the ultimate good that can happen to a story. If they're going to keep adulterating the stories, I hope they stop at Dawn Treader and don't make any more to spoil the Narnia experience.

of course, that's true, but I mean, my opinion : I didn't really like PC book, so the movie made me like the adventure of the Pevensies and Prince Caspian ...

I'd like to see all seven made.
AFAIK the cartoon only covered LWW and wasn't really all that good, the portrayal of the witch was awful.

The BBC did I think all the way through The Silver Chair in their production, it's been years since I've seen it though.

There are always going to be changes made. Movies are a much different medium than books. Sometimes the changes help portray what the book intended, even though they are not in the book.

You have somewhat of a time constraint with movies. The reader can put down a book and then pick up after taking a respite, movies are different. You have to cut stuff out of a book, and sometimes, modifying the story to some extent allows aspects from the book to be portrayed in the movies.

PC did deviate somewhat from the story line in some places. However, as books made into films go, it wasn't that bad. Look at the Jason Bourne movies. The first one had very little in common with the books, the second two were completely different stories from the books - and I mean absolutely nothing in common other than the title.

Anyway - I hoped they do make all seven. However, it is not dreadful if they do not, because the books are fun to read.
