3. There is an alien race that is battling the human race.
4. There is another race that supposedly died out called the Forerunners.
5. This novel mostly takes place on a planet which the literal translation means "Shield Planet".
 
The answer to katebenz5518's clue was The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and C.S. Lewis did not write Anne of Green Gables. The series Aravis of Archenland was thinking of would be The Chronicles of Narnia.
