Nessa's photoshop secrets

Okay....next tutorial:
How to make it looks like an object is surrounded by lightning. To make lightning is very easy in photoshop.
1. Open the file you want to use. Copy this file.
2. Click on new layer. Fill this layer with black.
3. Go to Filter > Render > Different clouds and repeat this step as much as you want till you are satisfied.
4. Go to Image > Adjust > Invert
5. Go to Image > Adjust > Levels and use these settings: Input Levels: 210, 0.18, 255.
6. Go to Image > Adjust > Hue/saturation and mark colorize. Play with the settings till you have a color you like. I used a blue color.
7. Copy the layer if you want to use the same lightning. Blending options: Screen or lighten. And press Ctrl + T. Now you can rotate the layer as you want. Move the layer wherever you want it.
8. repeat the above step till you are satisfied. Now you can merge down the layers. Don't merge all bur merge down till it is all merged down wih the new layer you created in step two.
Now you have twom options. You can play with the blending mode if you have a background pic you want to have lightning at, or you can select the background copy as descriped in step 1 and make sure it is placed on front.
Layer > Bring to front and add a layer mask. Now you make sure the background color is still black and you select a soft brush. Now paint on your background pic and you will see the lightning is going to be visible. paint till you are satisfied with the look of the lightning on your pic.
Save your work.
My result is not spectaculair but it is just a try out to show what you can do ;)

Love what you did to Frodo, dear! :p

Yeah! Frodo is my beloved subject to practise on. If he likes it...I don't know but I don't care anyway :D
I have learned how to create realistic louds. The clouds in this pic are created by me as the background as well. And of course I have used Frodo again :D I blended him in the pic.

I want to give an excellent blending tutorial. You want one pic blend in another pic. Let say pic A and B. Here is how you can do it the best way.
1. Open your pic you want to use as your main pic. We call it A.
2. Open the pic you want to blend. Call it pic B.
3. Make sure the foreground and background are the standard colors. If they aren't you can press D.
4. Select pic B in your layer palet and go to Layer > Arrange > send to back
5. Select pic A and add a layer mask. Don't select pic B but leave the selection at pic A!
6. Choose a soft paintbrush and depending on the size of your pic, use a regulair size. Between 35 and 100. It really depends on your pic size.
7. Start to paint on the spot you know pic B is placed behind. You will see pic B is appearing when you paint.
8. If you make a mistake or a part of pic B is coming up you don't want to be in pic A then you must press X. This will make the foreground color white and when you paint over the same parts you will see the unwanted parts are diappearing and the parts of pic A are coming back! I love this technique!
10. Continue ill you are satisfied and if you are, save your work.

My latest work. The Saruman one was funny to make. I discovered a great technique I am going to share with you soon. It is how you make a twirl in a pic without making it look unnatural. You can click to enlarge it

Edit: I just finished this:

Those are amazing,Vanessa!!!!! WOW!!!!!!! :)I've never seen anything like that!!!

Dani, I figured this technique out myself. Most fantasy tutorials I found were with pics I don't want to use. I have searched and tried out different filters and this is the result. I am going to share the secret soon :D

Thanks my dear Audrey! I hope you will be able to do the same with Gimp when I have explained ythe technique.
This is what I made today:

BTW,this was my experiment with the eye tutorial:

Its really wierd, and terrible..LOL....But I'll keep practicing, and hopefully it will look more normal as time goes by..At least I know how to do it....:D

Audrey...I will continue to say this: You are growing more and more dear one ;) This isn't bad at all. I think it is very good. I am so proud at you. I see in you the one who could take over my place in the future :D It is amazing how you work with the colors and style. I think the other tutorials to come will even make you more and more a master :D
It is very funny to see those colored eyeballs and it is often weird to see how natural it looks while it is unnatural in reality of course :D

Okay, first a very necessary but easy turorial for those who never worked with layers before.
Not only photoshop but also paintshop and Gimp work with layers. Now....layers, background, locked, merge....sound so difficult or confusing eh?
Let's start!!!
1.Open your program even when I am talking about photoshop. This might also be handy if you ever try a demo of photoshop.
Open a file. Look at your layer palet. In photoshop go to Window > Layers if our layer palet is not visible. What does it say about your file?
BACKGROUND. So, whatever file you open, in the layer palet it is always called background. The background pic itself is very limited when it comes to add great effects. Sure...you can add enoigh effects but when you don't like it, you have to undo the move or to open your file again after deleting it.
And to add simple effects like blending options.......you better duplicate your background ;)
2. Duplicate your background. Click right to duplicate it or in photoshop press ctrl + j. Now you see a new file is placed above your background in your layer palet and is called background copy. Now change the blending settings. You will see the effect is visible! Even if it is simple, the effect is visible because now you have TWO files to work with. You can move the upperfile called background copy and whatever you do, the background pic is always there as your solid base.
3. When you have a background pic and you add a new layer, you will see in your layer palet it is called Layer 1. That is the rule. And just like the background copy it is always placed above your background pic. Whenever it is a layer 1 or a background copy.
4. Whatever you want to do...suppose you have copied your background pic and want to add a special effect on the copy, make sure you have selected it in your layer palet!!!! In photoshop when you forget to select the layer you want to work on, you will get an error message. Like background can't be moved or the selected area is empty. This is because the layer you want to work on is NOT selected in your layer palet. Select the right layer simply by clicking on it in your layer palet. So far so easy eh? :D
5. Suppose you want to get rid off a background but you don't want to damage your original image. Do this: Copy the file and work in your copy. Select the copy layer in your layer palet and select the magic wand tool or lasso tool whatever you are going to use. Select the area. Don't undo the selection!!!! Duplicate your selection simply by clicking on New layer or in photoshop...ctrl+j. This is copying an existing layer but because you made a selection...only the selection is duplicated. Before continuing to work on changing the selected area...again...click on the latest copy you just made in your layer palet. Select the background simply by keepiong ctrl pressed and click your newly copied layer. Now you can add colors etc. Use the blening options to make the colors look natural. If you changed skin or hair or eyes, the blending option COLOR is the best option. Are you satisfied...merge the layers. This will result in a new pic called Background.
You see??? It sounds very difficult but layers are nothing more than copies of your file and/or new layers added to your background.

Okay, according to the the new rules threads with more than 1000 replies will be locked and new ones will be opened. My old thread has more than 1000 replies so time for a new topic. In this topic I am not only taking requests but I am also going to reveal some of my secrets I have learned through the months by working with photoshop so much. You can not only request banners, avies and wallies but also tutorials!!! If I know the tutorial of course :D
I first want to start with a very beautiful and great tutorial.
How do I turn this into this
1. Open a photofile
2. Layer > new layer
3. Fill the new layer with this background color: #E0A900 It is a bit golden yellow
4. Set the blending options for this layer on Soft light.
5. Merge the layers and after this, duplicate them.
6. Go to Filter > Distort > Diffuse glow and take over these settings:
Graininess = 0
Glow amount = 7
Clear amount = 10
Click OK
7. Go to Edit > fade diffuse glow. And now set the bledning options on Pin light
The opacity is 100%
Click ok and now you're done!
My Result:

I didn't wanna change it to Pin light because I liked the glow :p
