New TV Series "Kings"

Did anyone watch the 2-hour series premiere on network TV called "Kings" last night? It is about a modern world, but where there is a prominent nation (like the USA) with a real King instead of a president or government. Here's the cool thing ...

At the beginning, the King is inaugurating the new capital city of their nation of Gilboa, and this family of 7 brothers is watching the ceremony on TV when a car breaks down near their house, and the youngest boy goes out to help the man with the broken car. The youngest boy is named David, and the man with the broken car is named Rev. Samuels. In the course of their interaction, Samuels touches David on his forehead.

Two years later, David is now fighting in the army of Gilboa in their war with Gath, and he sees an opportunity to rescue two hostages that have been taken by Gath and are being guarded by "Goliath" tanks. He makes a daring one-man rescue and even blows up a Goliath!

Next he is promoted and becomes Capt David Shepherd, starts to fall in love with the King's daughter Michelle, and it turns out he has rescued the king's son -- he was one of the hostages being held by Gath.

It is the story of David in the Bible, how Samuel anointed the shepherd boy David to be King even while Saul was still technically king, and how David marries Saul's daughter and becomes the good friend of Saul's son ... I couldn't believe it as I was watching. A Bible story, made modern.

Oh, also, the king in this program was doing some bad stuff, and apparently Rev. Samuels had helped him to get to be king, and during the course of the program, Samuels told him God allowed him to be king, but God was looking for a man after His own heart, and so God was going to find someone else to be king! Just like Samuel the priest told Saul, and of course, in the Bible David was the man after God's own heart.

I thought it was cool. It has some adult themes, but it's on network TV and not cable so there's nothing to graphic.

I had seen the previews for the show but I had no idea it had a biblical theme. That is pretty cool. I hope they don't mess it up......
I'm watching the premier ep online now. :p

I did not know it was based on the Bible story, either, until I started watching. The story in the Bible is pretty messed up in itself if they follow it all the way until David becomes king and goes a bit wild himself, and then his own son rebels ... Yikes!

nice. oh haha i meant i hope they don't make the Bible story into something it's not if they want to keep with the Biblical theme, which it's looking like they will...if that makes sense

I heard about the series but I haven't watched it yet. I bet they picked David's story for that reason, that they can do interesting stuff in the TV show and still be in the Bible story boundaries.
