I just felt like writhing a story while on holiday and I've just carried on writing while at school. Hope you like it!!

Chapter One

Auraya woke from sleep with a start and almost fell out her hammok. She'd had the nightmare again, the one where this man senses her magical potential and takes her away to learn black magic and then through her he calls the black gods from the deepest, darkest pits of hell. Then they would kill everyone, even the one's she loves. apart from her who they would use as a slave and make her kill her own mother. they start to cheer the the highest male on as he advances towards her with ugly intent... And she wakes up. Auraya frowned. She was very concerned that these dreams might turn out to be true. She knew that she had magic potential because she had unleashed it quite a few times by accident. But she was of the lower classes, she could not learn control for that was a luxury for those of higher birth. Because she had unlocked her powers she was going to flame out in around a year. Her mum trying to arrange one of the flame-out houses because her powers would destroy her and everything around her. People all over the place were always having flame-outs, so the Sorcerer's School teachers decided to build the flame-out houses so that people when they were soon to flame-outwould come and die in the magically protected houses. Auraya was scared that she wasn't going to be able to learn control for if she didn't then she would die......

End of chapter one!! If I get feedback then there will be a chapter Two.

I take it that this "flame-out" experience is like the way Stephanie Meyer imagines new vampires having no self-control at first. But in view of what seems to be the nature of the "flame-out," why doesn't the society in your story place the new magicians on top of an empty rocky plateau? Then the flames, NOT being confined, should spread outward and NOT consume the magician. Or is it precisely your point that this community has a ruthless "sink or swim" attitude toward the novice magicians?

No it's a totally out of control thing. there is no way to control it. With vampires you can stay away from humans but with this there is no way that can happen.

To your other question the flames start within and there is no way to control it. The flames don't spiral it's a magical burst of energy that incinerates whoever was having the flame-out. Also they are very ruthless towards the poor.

Every story deserves a name. I name this one "Charlie" because I've always wanted to name a story Charlie.

There's no sequel and it is not gonna be called Charlie!! No offense.

Chapter Two

A YEAR LATER

Three burly men came to help Auraya's mum lock Auraya into the flame-out house she arranged. But Auraya was not going to suffer the indignaty of being carried. She would go with her head held high. "Time to go now love." Auraya's mum was trying not to cry, for this was the second child to go to the flame-out house. Valek, a boy, had only been nine when he went. He had kicked and screamed because unlike Auraya he was not prepared to give up life yet. The men still watched her carefully as she stalked down the street took one last look at her home and walked into the flame-out house. She did not say goodbye because she could not bear it. So instead she just shouted out the door,
"I LOVE YOU MUM!!!" and got sobs back in reply. She settled down in her new home and waited for it to happen.

This was just something I made up on holiday so please don't judge too harshley. This chapter is really short actually.

Fine. Fine!!

Chapter Three

Auraya was confused. Valek hAd died almost as soon as he went in the flame out house but Auraya had bben here seven days and hadn't even felt a tingle. The house was well stocked with food and water so Auraya could just end up living there just waiting for it to happen. She then heard a key in the lock and and a sorceror inthe purple robes of the king and most powerful man in the kingdom, King Chaia had come to speak to her!
"You have not yet had a flame-out. Why not?" He asked her.
"I don't know your majesty." She said in a small voice.
"So it is not of your doing?"
"Of course not!"
"I would like to invite you to the sorcerors school where you can learn control. I am only offering you a place because this has never happened before. You must be some sorceror." Aureya's eyebrows rose in shock.
"But no one from the lower classes has ever got a place. So I accept and would be honoured to attend the school. Thank you!!"
"You do realise that there will be alot of prejudice against you and you will probably be bullied and won't fit in."
"Of course." She nodded. "But if I could learn magic... It's all I've ever wanted!!" King Chaia got up to leave.
"Then come with me."

Am I right in thinking a conflict is going to come up? I mean, the people allowing Auraya to attend school basically killed her brother.

Well. No. Not for a while.

Chapter Four

Aureya had been given an apprentiship to Anna, a healer who wore robes of blue. She was to share Anna's quaters and become a healer like her. Anna was head healer and one of the higher 3. The higher three was her, Peter, who was head of alchemy, who wear red robes, and King Chaia. There were no sorcerors for fighting because they believed all war did was lead to masacare and nothing else. So almost all sorcerors are very persuasive people.
Auraya was to learn control and then enter the school proper with the mid-summer intake. She was having no problem with learning control and now was doing magic all the time. Because of this she asked Anna if she could join for she still had two months untill the mid-summer intake. Anna said she would try. So then there has to be an initiation ceremony where Auraya will become a trainee sorceror.

Chapter 4 Continued

Auraya and Anna walked into the great hall, a massive domed structure that was five storeys tall and had huuge stain-glass windows showing scenes of healing and alchemists discovering things. There was a high plinth with 3 chairs, one for each of the higher sorcerors. Anna took her place in the chair to the left of King Chaia. Peter was on the other side of him.
"We are here today to unite a mentor and apprentice. Also to bring one into the talents of sorcery." Chaia announced. Normally because about 12 people were becoming trainees the hall would be packed with parents and relatives. But because Aureya was becoming a trainee it was just her and the 3 higher magicians.
"Come forward Aureya to be bonded and given the responsibility of becoming a sorceror." Auraya walked forward and bowed her head. "Come forward those that woiuld like to become Auraya's guardian and teacher." Anna stepped down from the plinth and went annd stood next to Auraya. "Do you, Auraya wish to accept these robes and this guardian or do you wish to go home stripped of your powers?"
"I do." Auraya said defiantly and looked up with a ferocious look in her eyes.
"Do you, head healer Anna wish to come and teach Auraya?"
"I do."
"Then I, as King give you, Auraya these robes and announce this guardianship official." And with that King Chaia and Peter just walked off. The robes Auraya had been given were the plain green of trainees but had double thin stripes of blue arounnd the bottom and the edge of the sleeves meaning that her guardian was the head healer.
"Brilliant! Please can I go back to our quarters and change?" Auraya asked.
"Of course. I knew you would want to. Lessons start tomorrow at 9. What time do you want to be woken up?" Anna asked.
"Erm... 8. Come on!!" Auraya practically dragged Anna down the hall to their quarters.
