Not since Liv Tyler as Arwen has there been an actress so perfectly cast in a fantasy role. Well, at least in terms of looks. We will now have to wait to see her performance.

Just read over at the NarniaWeb comment section, some one did a bit mroe reseach into her, and it turns out that Laura graduated from NIDA, the same acting school in Australia that the likes of Cate Blanchette ( Galadriel in LOTR for those who don't know actor/actress names), Hugo Weaving ( Elrond in LOTR and Agent Smith in the Matrix) and Mel Gibson graduated from. That school is ranked one of the Top Ten best acting schools in the world. From the sounds of it, we will get a fine performance from her.

I never said I wouldn't give her a chance, I just said I don't like her look. To me, Liv Tyler looks like an Elf; drop-dead gorgeous. I don't get that kind of awe-inspiring beauty from this girl. Not saying she's ugly (she's very pretty), but I always felt like RD was this jaw-dropping beauty that would make you speechless no matter who you were.

Ok, I had to register on this forum just to reply to this. I couldn't disagree more, and that is the worst comparison I have heard so far. LOTR trilogy is by far my favorite, and I think Arwen was cast PERFECTLY. Liv Tyler was very beautiful, tall, and elf like even before she was put in costume. Her beauty compared to Eowen was enough for Aragorn to turn down all of her advances towards him.

I don't like this actress's appearance at all for the role, it is nothing like the description in the book. Her face is very plain, she is average height and body type, not tall like in the book. She has very small eyes.. the only thing that she has going for her is her hair color (although her hair itself is very flat and lifeless). I just imagined her tall, thick wavy hair, big youthful eyes, thick lips (think S. Johannson like), and just more, well, perfect looking.

Now, please don't take this the wrong way either- but it just seems like they didn't do a very thorough search. For a big budget movie that is going to play internationally, it seems they did not search very well- all of the roles were cast not only to Australians, but Australians that lived near the Gold Coast. I'm not saying that those particular actors/ actresses were not the best choice, but it just appears that they did not look very far. Did the production company sign some sort of contract stating that they couldn't hire outside of Australia (with the exception of the roles already cast to non-aussies - Ben, Georgie, Skandar, Will, Shane, Liam, Eddie)?
Don't get me wrong, there are some beautiful women from Australia- for example, Miranda Kerr (Model), Emilie De Raven (Actress from Lost). I think they could have done better.

Looking at more pics, she just seems sooo wrong for the part. Face looks so flat here:

and this pic makes her face look like a chipmunk...

Also this appears to be her in a music video

I noticed something else. Laura Brent has worked with 2 other VDT cast members before.
The aussie show "Chandon Pictures", Roy Billing was also a guest star http://www.movienetwork.tv/chandon/#/Episodes/
The play "Hamlet", she worked with Colin Moody http://www.youthcentral.vic.gov.au/ViewPage.action?&repositoryName=&siteNodeId=547&CurrentFolderID=1930&ItemID=11825&BackToFolderID=1966
Guess it's all about who you know?

-Poor Ben. After his comments regarding how he hoped RD would be "hot", he is going to be asked in hundreds of interviews if this actress lived up to his "expectations".. Oh well, good thing he can act :p

Ramandu's daughter is the daughter of a star - literally. It's hard to find someone who looks too terribly much like a star. I think that Laura Brent is an excellent choice, and as for her face and other features, well, she may not be perfect, but I have faith in the hair stylists and make-up artists. Not that I'd trust them to do anything on me, though, I might add. ;) Like many people have said already - the main thing is chemistry. I see no reason that she shouldn't have chemistry with Ben Barnes. If you do, that's fine. By the way, I personally thought that Ben Barnes was a poor choice for Caspian at first. But he ended up doing a masterful job with his character. So keep your eyes open and your hopes up.

Two things I'd like to see: 1: Not only her, but the other screen tests for the role. Especailly those of her with Ben. Casting director go through sometimes hundreds of candidates for a role untill they nail it. They'd presumably also have to test her opposite Ben to make sure they "click". It was something I felt with the Susan/Caspian stuff. The kiss, in my mind didn't work, not only because it wasn't in the book, but because they didn't "click" right. He "felt" more like a fifth Pevensie then anything else. Even my freinds who had not read the books more then maybe once, or even not at all, felt it was just sort of forced. My dad never even read it and said the same. Caspian and Ramandu's daughter have to feel the opposite.
2: A picture of her in costume as R's daughter, and that picture placed next to one of Anna as Susan from PC.

And, there is definitly something more appealing about Laura's looks then say Megan Fox. Laura just , I dunno, looks real. Plus she has actual classical acting training.

I COMPLETELY agree with that. To be honest, after reading some of the comments on here, I've gotten quite angry  I know those of you who don't like her don't mean any harm, but please be respectful. Just b/c she looks a certain way in some pictures does not mean she isn't beautiful. I mean, (and this is coming from a girl's standpoint, so bear with me), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy in HP) is utterly gorgeous ( ;) ), but I will admit he doesn't look totally flattering in every single picture taken of him. As it is with us all. We're all people, and we're bound to look awful in pictures from time to time (not that either Laura or Tom look awful, but you know what I mean). I think people are forgetting that she's a person and that yes, even for actors and celebrities, the camera doesn't always take a perfect picture. Just because they're actors doesn't mean they automatically will look stunning in every photograph.

And, to add on to that, I would like to bring up another important point. I read back a page that some of you imagined RD to look like an Scarlett Johannsen (sp?) type. To be perfectly honest,I AM VERY GLAD that Laura doesn't. Scarlett, to me, looks very fake. She's extremely beautiful, yes, I won't deny that. But there's something about her when you look at her that tells you she's been all dolled up by Hollywood to look "perfect" all the time. Like Barbie basically (who, as some of you might know, could never exist in real life b/c if she was a person, all her bodily proportions are so unrealistic that anybody who actually had her body shape/size would probably be dead, to put it bluntly). But anyway...honestly, I HATE it when Hollywood gets to the natural beauty of a person (inside and out) and completely ruins it by trying to embellish the outer part and make it "perfect". THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS PERFECTION. I know I might be getting preachy on this, but being an OCD perfectionist myself trying to battle unnecessary perfection in all its forms, I tend to become very touchy on this issue. Given the choice between an actress who looks plastic and an actress who looks real, I'd wholeheartedly pick the real one. I seriously cannot STAND some Hollywood actresses for the sheer reason that they seem to allow everybody to paint this immaculate image of them. It's not fair, it's NOT a good influence on the younger generations (don't EVEN get me started on that one), and it's demeaning to the rest of the world that thinks they HAVE to look like that.

I think Laura is stunningly beautiful in her own way. I admit, I still don't think she really looks like RD. But she does have a beauty all her own that seems very genuine and not airbrushed or plastic or fake or anything of that sort. I'm going to wait until I see her in costume and see her ACT (heck, yes, she has to act, she can't just look pretty, people ). I have good confidence in her acting since she has classical training--stage acting is one of the best ways to get acting experience. The best out there mostly started out on stage. You don't get as good as Kenneth Branagh without being on stage first :p

So, please hold off on the comments about her looking "unflattering" or anything of the sort. She is NOT ugly. She may not look like RD, but she is very beautiful and I'm going to defend her on that point until my fingers fall off from typing too much. Thank you.

Like I've said on all the other official threads, this is only for updates or constructive criticism of an acting role. Not discussing whether someone's pretty enough to be in a movie. (For shame!) If you want a fan thread for Laura I will happily create one.

So should we start threads about each and every aspect of a cast member? like a thread to discuss their clothes, one for their hair, one for their look and maybe one for what they eat? I mean, if we can't comment those thing in their official threads then where can we comment that on? Should we start making UNOFFICIAL threads then? I think this interpretation of the spamming rule and deleting of the posts is kind of petty.

Nope Mike. In the fanclubs section (here in the same forum) onlymystory opened a thread where you can discuss all the things you want about Laura. Official threads are for acting only and the fanclub threads are for anything else as well ;)
Here is the link:
http://narniafans.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26116

Well, suppose I'm not a fan, hence I won't participate in a fan thread, but I want to discuss some aspect of the actor's that doesn't fall into acting and work? What then. There has to be some middle ground. I just think it's ridiculous to make a thread for the actor and then not being able to comment. I am not a professional critic so that I can discuss their career and stuff that the mod want's in here. I just want to talk about her without fan gushiness! Like I said, the rule is ridiculous.

I have to agree with you on that one ;) Maybe the mods should change the name of the fanclubs subforum into Unofficial threads or something. For the younger members it might be great but for us older members it is a bit weird to be called so called "fans" when we want to talk about the cast

If you admire someone's work or a person, you are a fan of them. There is a difference between being a 14 year old Skandarnite and being a fan of Liam Neeson. And its actually been made pretty clear the distinction. The official thread is to comment on acting. No, you don't have to be a professional critic. Just be discussing the acting of that particular person, past, present, or future. Anything else regarding that person belongs in the fan thread. Its really not that difficult.

...This is quickly turning into a "Define 'Official Thread'" topic, and is straying quite far from Laura Brent.

...Can't everyone just suck it up and obey the rule, whether you think it's good or bad? Now come on, back to Laura career discussion. Er, thinking of what I just said, I think if the rule stands as it is, all the "official" threads about the actors/actresses should be changed to names like "Laura Brent --Professional" or "Ben Barnes -- Professional Discussion," while the fan threads could be called things like "Anna Popplewell -- General Discussion," etc.

I think that'd be a GREAT idea, and it'd solve many of the confusing problems we've been having. Because really, even if you read the rules at the beginning of the thread, how many other people (new people especially) are gonna do that? "Official Georgie Henley" could mean anything, while "Georgie Henley -- General Discussion" and "Professional Discussion" would be self-explanatory. How 'bout it, OMS? :) All confusion would disappear.
