Official Laura Brent Thread!!

Yes that one. I think they could have done even more with her character rather than the "swords of the seven lords" thing.

LOL well, I'm reserving judgment until I see it. I'm kind of annoyed b/c of all the people already assuming things about it :/

From what I've seen, I'm really convinced now that Laura was the perfect casting choice. I saw the bit in that latest trailer and was like  that's pretty much exactly how I imagined her. In looks (minus the glowing--although I actually kind of like that now), but also a lot in terms of mannerisms, speech, and generally just how Laura played her in that really short bit.

And think about it...she's actually a REALLY hard character to play. Being in acting class right now has made me more aware of how hard it is to portray certain characters in certain ways. Laura has to make Lilliandil appear likeable, and also someone the audience can attach to, AND also believe is meant for Caspian in terms of how the two interact, all with very little textual background. She appears for such a short period of time, but in that time, she has to be able to capture the audience's heart and be able to convince the audience that Caspian & her potential relationship is plausible. That is an EXTREMELY difficult task for an actor and I applaud her for just trying, let alone winning me over with just 5 seconds of a scene. As an actor myself, I don't know if I'd be able to do that. O_O

And, on the fangirl side of things, I just adore Caspian's reaction to her. LOL he's so...forgive the terrible pun..."star-struck." :p

And then when Edmund is all like , Caspian just gives him this hilarious "back OFF; she's MINE!" look LMAOOO

Lucy is probably thinking, "Well, I'm older now, so I know what all that hoo-hah over Susan and Caspian was....but I thought surely Edmund would have better sense!" :D

Caspian: <3
Edmund:
Lucy:  Boys...

That was my impression. lol

Anyway, I love that we keep seeing footage of Laura in the trailers. It's good to know that they apparently thought much of her character. Not looking forward to what happens in SC, though...poor Lilliandil :(

1. That they reduced her down to a glowing star.
2. There was almost NOTHING to indicate that she'd be important later on,
and 3. She didn't explain anything about the table.

I've mentioned this before, but I think it was Edmund who said, "Look, it's the knife". What knife? What the heck was he talking about? OKay, as book fans, we know that the knife was the knife Jadis used to kill Aslan. But nobody else knew that. I always thought the purpose of Lilliandil was to explain the story behind the table and the knife. Not to mention the three lords. We got a snippet of that, but it wasn't the entire thing, which was extremely disappointing (just another shining example of the poor writing in this movie)

Yeah... I was disappointed with how they handled the part at Aslan's table. When she said they had fallen asleep because "violence is forbidden at Aslan's table", I let out an indignant squeak.

I agree that there was poor writing in the film. How I wish it had been better. But this was such an improvement on Caspian, and was such a thoroughly enjoyable movie for me that I can get over it.

"Teen angst" oookay.

If the filmmakers ever follow the story of the books, I think that Laura will really shine (no pun intended) as Lilliandil if given adequate screen time.

Perhaps that's not the right terminology, but I couldn't come up with any other way to express it. I'm talking about Peter and Susan. I felt annoyed by the way it comes across that teenage girls all struggle about boys, and teenage boys all are arrogant jerks. (Not that it isn't often that way. But Peter wasn't like that in the book, and...)

Well, I just realized that this is completely off-topic. If you would like to continue this discussion, VM me. ;)

Anyway... I really liked Laura as Lilliandil. I hope to see her in TSC. If the moviemakers don't follow the book in that regard, I will be sooo mad.

No I don't wish to continue the conversation because I see far fewer faults with PC than with VDT.

But in my mind, the makers have dug themselves into a hole becuase of how her character was in Dawn Treader.

All right. That's fine with me. You have your opinion; I'll have mine.

That's true. How can Caspian marry a blue woman?!

I don't think that would be strange really. She isn't human. In the book she was at least half-star. C.S. Lewis never said anything about her mother, for all we know she was a star, thus making Lilliandil a star as well. In which case BookCaspian did marry a star, so what's the big problem?

But let's go with the popular belief that Ramandu's daughter was half-human and half-star. In this case Ramandu would've had to intermarry with a human. Either way, whether it was Caspian with a star or Ramandu with a human, you have humans and stars intermarrying at some point. It may be a little weird, but it is book canon.

And who really cares if she doesn't look quite human? It's Narnia. It's magical. Why should she look completely human if she's a star? Stars are not humans so they don't have to look completely like them. At least she wasn't a glowing ball the whole time :p That would complicate the relationship lol. Perhaps she can turn off the glow just like she can change into human form. I don't know. But I don't think people will have a huge issue with Caspian marrying a woman who glows. It's fantasy. If you want something that isn't weird you should probably watch/read something besides fantasy.

As for them sticking to the book where Ramandu's daughter is concerned, I say please don't! Find some way to expand this if at all possible. Please find some way to help us get to know Lilliandil. Make us care about her. Make us love her. Make us love Caspian/RD more than Suspian. (I already do of course but I mean for all those who haven't read the books.) Most of all make us understand why Rilian is so distraught over losing her. Make us know why avenging her death is more important to him than staying home with his beloved father in his time of need. I know that's a bit of a big request, but pretty please do it if you can.
