Other Lewis works

I was just wondering what other books everyone like by C.S. Lewis, other than the Narnia series. My personal favorite is Mere Christianity, though I do have several of his works, in 2 anthologies, that are next up on my reading list, so it could change. But MC will always be one of my favorites.

ETA: There is a wonderful website, http://www.christianbook.com, that offers Christian products for great prices. They have a lot of Lewis' work. I've ordered many things from this website over the last few years and it's wonderful quality. I've only ever had to return one item, a DVD that didn't play, and the customer service was prompt and wonderful. So if you're looking to purchase anything by Lewis, I suggest this website.

Screwtape Letters is on my list of things to read. And I really like the parts of Mere Christianity that I have read. Lewis is a good thinker, and I agree with his theology. :)

Due to the busyness of my life, I haven't read a TON of his stuff, but he is definitely my favorite author. I liked Mere Christianity a lot, and The Screwtape Letters are also good. Till We Have Faces was very different, but it was also a very well written, fascinating take on a Greek myth. I have yet to read the Space Trilogy, and I'm reading Miracles right now. It's amazing.

MC is one of his best. I've read just about everything he wrote, including some of his professional stuff. The Forgotten Image is about the medieval/Renaissance literature, and it's great.

One that grows on you over the years is The Great Divorce.

It's my hope to read as much stuff by C.S. Lewis in my life as possible. I want to read all his works. (Although there was one book he wrote, I don't remember the name, that utterly bored me. That's surprising, even to me!)

I've read part of "The Space Trilogy" once. I read Out of the Silent Planet which I thoroughly enjoyed and then I read part of Perelandra and found it confusing so I didn't read all of it. I intend to read more of his books soon, after I finish re-reading the series I'm reading now and maybe a few more books... (it depends on what I get for Christmas :D)

The Space Trilogy is definitely on my to-read list for Lewis. I'll probably buy that in the next few months, after I've read the other Lewis books I have on my bookshelf. :p

PS: I added a link in my original post to a great website. Check it out.

I love the Space Trilogy. I would like to reread it again sometime. I love the imagery used throughout. I could envision in my head a powerful trailer for a movie version of "Out of the Silent Planet."

I love "The Screwtape Letters." It's the type of book I find very handy and insightful for our modern culture. I had started reading "Mere Christianity," I believe it was, and found it very boring. No offense to the author of course, but to take time reading a proof for the existence of God is a complete waste of time. I know Him very personally, in a way many people would probably laugh at my claim of. But that doesn't worry me. I would like to explore some of his other works and I've heard good things about "Till We Have Faces." I also find any biographies ABOUT C.S. Lewis very intriguing!

You should finish it. It's a very good book! Of course, if you don't like non-fiction, you wouldn't like it, but I suppose it could be boring to anyone. At least skip the whole "proving God" thing, if you don't want to read it. The rest is good stuff, some of the best I've ever read.

Till We Have Faces is a very good book, but quite different from anything I've read by Lewis. You should definitely read it some time!

Tirian: The things which reveal God's real-ness TO US are good FOR US; but Mr. Lewis was reaching beyond one-person-at-a-time personal experience, offering insights which could help MANY people.

Arvan: "Till We Have Faces" is indeed a profound work; but anyone who plans to read it needs first to have a good knowledge of Mr. Lewis' body of literature, and/or a good knowledge of Greek mythology.

Screwtape Letters

My husband invited me for a surprise date this Saturday, but he couldn't keep it a secret for long. He's taking me to the national tour version of The Screwtape Letters! Can't wait to see it. Wow a real date, just him and me...;)

That's so cool! What a lucky lady you are. It should be wonderful entertainment, too. Have fun!

I really enjoyed Lewis' Space Trilogy and 'Til We Have Faces. I thought they were both really good. I have read the Screwtape Letters but I ned to read it again. I have't gotten through Mere Christianity yet and there are other stories I want to read.

Don't bypass MC. When I first read it, sometimes I had to read every chapter twice just to be sure I understood it. I think part of it is that CSL was writing in a different time, and a different country, so it takes a while to get into his mind set. But some of the most valuable lessons CSL taught me are in that book.

Yes that is one of the reasons that I need to read the Screwtape Letters again. I can't remember much about what it was saying. Besides it being an "older devil" mentoring a "young devil" on how to tempt and keep a man from trusting in God. I'll try to read MC again pretty soon. :)

I like "The Great Divorce" very much. Especially the part with a man having a small beast of some kind on his shoulder. It whispers things in his ear, which he likes to hear. I guess it's temptations and such.
Once he agrees to let go of the beast, it's turned into a horse; something much more useful to him. When we allow God to help us, He can do great things for us!!

"Mere Christianity" is also good.

The Space Trilogy is very good, but the best book is the last, That Hideous Strength, so you have to get through the first not so good books the get to the best. Though That Hideous Strength was written almost60 years ago it has a very contempory message. If you can get it on audio book like I have it, it is much more enjoyable.
