Percy Jackson & The Olympians.

So I FINALLY saw the movie last weekend, and, despite the fact that it was very different from the book, I still really enjoyed it. Though sadly, I had to use the bathroom SO BADLY, so I ended up leaving to use the restroom during the scene when they were entering the Underworld. I loved Grover in this movie, he was HILARIOUS!!!! And is it just me, or does Percy look a lot like Edmund when he's in armor?

I have all of them, read the first two. I loaned my copy of the third one out because I did not think I would be getting to it any time soon at the time. Now I am to it and don't have it.

iMerge

iMerged 2 threads on Percy Jackson -- also there's a discussion of the morality/ethics of it in the Socratic club.

I want to see the movie, I hope to see it this week. :)

I have read books 1 and 2 only. So far.

Love them all. Not so much the movie though. *WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD to continue highlight* I seriously doubt they could pick up the pieces after everything they left out and continue the series. Leaving at so many key characters and scenes and change their ages killed series possibilities. I normally am okay with some changes and the changes they made were pretty spectacular in terms of visual effects, but they butchered it beyond repair. The mayhem is far worse than anything Disney did to PC. They almost completely changed the entire plot, probably the one thing that stayed the same was that Percy's mother was taken captive from the Minotaur and the master Bolt was stolen. No Oracle, no prophesy, no claiming or hellhound at the camp, no Ares, no Dionysis, no Kronos, no Echidna, no Chimera, no Neriad, no Clarisse, no Cerberus, no toilet scene, no fates, only one Fury, no Italian Suits, no Golden Arch or bus Wreck, no animal moving van, no dreams, no Tartarsus, no Pit Scorpion. Additions of a Hydra; Persephone; another person at the Aunty Em's Eporium; Luke at least appearing to die (he cannot breath in the ocean like Percy can therefore he is probably dead); The Nashville Parthenon was added. So much was left out, the series cannot be at all the same if they try to continue it.

I agree with you, Lava. I enjoyed the movie as a separate story, but it was way off-base from the original book, and I do not see how they can pull it back on track to continue the series. It was disappointing as an adaptation of the book, for true.

I have read books 1-4 now and enjoyed each one very much. The book 4 has a chapter of book 5 at the end, and book 5 is called "The Last Olympian" I think, but I cannot find it anywhere. Has it been released yet?

Yes, I got it at Wal-Mart. Sometimes they have it sometimes they don't, it is only in Hard Back still. He is supposed to start a new Camp Half-Blood series sometime this year. In my Opinion, it is the best of the books.

Oh, cool! Thank you. Usually I cannot afford hardcover, but maybe someone will have it used or something.

Pj&to

I'v read the first two books, but with all the people now wanting to read them, and the fact that my library has two copies of each, is making a longer wait than I'd like. Good books, but I'd like to give Riordan a piece of my mind concerning the new series, The Kane Chronicles. He can't even be bothered to use anything other than the Memphis Aten cult! What about Heliopolis? What about Thebes? And HORUS! A kid! Riordan is forgetting about Imsety, Hapy, Duamutef, and Qebesenuef! AND, what is he using to name the deities? Reconstructed ME Laitin-style?!? SET??? BAST??? Set ( real identity: Seth) is the GOD OF EVIL, for crying out loud! He isn't a likeable god! He is described as being an affiliate of ?A?pepi ( Aapep [ meaning: he who was cast out] {demon/ serpent/dragon! Who doesn't recognize Satan when they see him!}])! And BAST? REALLY?!? Bast ( real identity: Bastet) is one of the most beautiful goddesses of Egypt! Yet Riordan makes her look like a possessed jaguar! Doesn't he know that the jaguar instigated so much terror as to be a third of Ammut, the devourer of souls ( along with crocodile and hippopotamus)? Ammut was depicted as part of all three of the most terrifying creatures known to Ancient Egypt! And Isis, dear Isis. She told RE to tell her his secret name so that she could heal him. He told her, and she kept her end of the deal! There was not trickery involved, no matter how reluctant RE was!!! It would be nice if he actually studied the topic on which he was writing BEFORE filling a book with inaccuracies!

I have read all the books and i think they are so awesome. I watched the movie first and that made me want to read the books. The movie was great, but the books were even better. I totally love greek mythology, too so these were awesome. I bought books 1 and 4 at my library book sale for .25 and .50. Then my grandparents just got me the other three for my birthday! I think they are releasing movie #2 next year. It should be cool!!!

I'm almost finished with reading through the series for the second time. I really enjoy them. They always make me laugh. I admire how the author makes the characters grow up so smoothly; that's not an easy task.

I like the books very much but was awfully disappointed in the movie. I don't even know how they can make a second movie (based on the books) after that first film which shredded the book basically ...
