Portrayls of the dryads/naiads/nymphs in the three films thus far.

What is everyone's opinions of how the nymphs/nature spirits of Narnia have been portrayed in the three films so far? i want to hear a couple opinions before I give my own.

I have no complaint for the Dryads in the films, they are creatively done with blossoms and seem always obedient to Aslan. The Nymphs remind me too much of clear Mermaids abd are less convincing...

I agree with SoA. The dryads are fine.
The mermaids in LWW were better than in VDT I think. In VDT they're a bit strange, one can almost see through them; weird.

Ugh, you just opened up a can of worms for me Jake! This was one of the biggest complaints (and one of the only complaints) I had about LWW; I hate to tell you, but Lewis didn't say that the dryads were blossom-people. They would transition from being trees to people, people to trees. One of the things that stood out to me about the dryads was that they could feel pain, like the dryad who was cut down in TLB.

And don't even get me started about the walking trees in PC. THAT was disappointing. I know they can't do what Lord of the Rings did with the Ents....but they could have done better without making it seem like they copied LotR. In that case, I'm glad that they probably won't get to make TLB because the trees are an integral part of the story, and I will never be able to enjoy how they made the dryads and nymphs come to life.

Well maybe in the last battle they will use a different type of Dryad. the ones seen in the first two films (including the one killed in PC in that deleted scene), are blossoms, which seem to be from smaller trees. The trees in LB are huge forest trees, so just like humans have races maybe dryads have types...

I agree with you! I do like the dryads in the movie. They're really cool! But they're not nearly as cool as they would have been had the moviemakers followed the book in this area.

Once, on a windy day at my cousin's house, the wind picked up scattered autumn leaves and they started swirling around. I freaked out because it looked almost like one of the movie dryads. :D:rolleyes:

I was disappointed with how PC handled the walking trees.

I liked VDT's mermaids to some degree, but the ones in LWW were much better.

And see, that's another thing. Lewis said that there were mermaids in the book, not nymphs....but they made the "mermaids" out to be nymphs. What I don't get is why. I mean, why not just make them mermaids similar to the ones in LWW?

Oh wait...that's yet another example of where they failed to read the book. (is that too negative, or am I allowed to hold that opinion? )

your allowed to hold that opinion. Either make the nymphs look different or make them mermaid, without the unfinished clear look and glowing heart.

Oh I am? Funny, I thought that I wasn't allowed to say anything negative on this forum, according to some. (Not you; I'm referring to others).

Right, and one of the things I missed the most in the movie was the underwater country that Lucy saw. Would it have cost that much more to stick that in there?

I was super-disappointed that they didn't show the underwater mermaid country. I thought it was so magical and beautiful in the book. :(

At least they kept Reep's line about how the water was sweet... I would have been very angry if they'd left that out.

I hoped Reepicheep would jump into the water to fight the king of the sea people!
Well, as you say, MissR, at least they kept his line about the water being sweet.

At least they didn't use Mermaidman & Barnacleboy!! Or maybe they should've!!:D

Well I found some of the other work from the writers of VDT:

Oh dear, indeed.... *Goes to ge AK and get the pickets ready*
LOL JUST KIDDING!!!! :D LOVE YOU AK!!! ;)

Although the dryads/naiads/nymphs were very different, I liked the way they were in the movies a lot. Besides, if you watch The Mill's featurette on Aslans Country, you'll be thankful for what we got in VDT when you see what some of the other designs were.

Could you provide a link?

Thanks! :d wow, the ones on the storyboard look like the classical interpretation of the naiads. Funny I thought Walden had their own CGI studio for things like this, or did they outsource? The ideas this studio came up with look way off from anything Narnian so they must have not been too familiar with the world at first.
