Movie Studios create "For your consideration" campaigns to try to advertise their films for consideration in award nominations. I am a Disney and Pixar fan and one day I found the Walt Disney Studios for your consideration website http://waltdisneystudiosawards.com/ On this website I was able to download the screenplays for Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland (2010). I have really enjoyed reading the screenplays. I also found free screenplays for UP, Wall-E, and Despicable Me.

Several years ago I was given a book on screenwriting that I have not read until recently. I was wondering if this forum does any script writing? I have not written any screenplays yet, but thought that it would be good to try to write one. Have other TDL members written scripts that they have shared through the forum?

So far I have only read the screenplays provided by studios as free downloads through the "For your consideration" websites. I was wondering if it would be ethical to download screenplays from non-studio websites like mypdfscripts.com ? I would read them for educational use so think that this may qualify for a fair use exemption. The scripts do not have a negative commercial impact on the product and they represent a small scope when compared to the completed film. I think that this might be considered fair use, but wondered what other TDL members thought.
 
Have you spoken with Evening Star about his dramatic podcasts? Making something in the nature of radio theater calls for a script, and thus is related to movie writing.

I've written a few screenplays with the CeltX program, but I haven't posted any under TDL. (This is partially because it's hard to re-format it after pasting it onto the post and partially because a lot are based on copyrighted books.)

I hope it's not illegal, because I get scripts off sites like that.:eek:
 
Become successful as an author before you worry about being successful as a screen writer. These days with the ability to submit stories as a word processor document file, even typesetting can be dispensed with and you can get text out there cheap for downloading with Kindle or Nook. But a movie...actors, music, location, props, insurance, distribution... If someone hasn't taken a chance with publishing your type for purchase, work on that and perfect your craft first.

The best scripts are not just stories with people doing stuff. When the STYLE of what is said, what is seen, and what music is played ALL WORKS TOGETHER to make your drama more than a story, then you have a good film. That's usually the final step in your ascention as a writer.
