Sonnets Here, In-House

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Joe you made a girl cry over here!

:D

Save for the birthday cards (which I rarely get) and christmas cards (even rarer) no one ever writes anything about me!

:)

I'm soooooooooooooo happy! I WILL get my stories written!

Another good one, well-launched. Are sonnets becoming second nature to you yet? Watch out, you saw what happened to one William Shakespeare... he started and couldn't stop. :D Of course, that means more good stuff for the rest of us to read!

To Jack of Blades, in His Well-Intentioned Confusion

My sonnets are so often done at night!
I simply happen to discover themes
For verse in sleepy hours; this time, the plight
Of Jack of Blades is putting off my dreams.

He loves, but cannot have--yes, I've been there!
Not only teens can feel that bitter loss.
But Jack, please trust your Healer, and beware
Of letting anger turn you from the Cross.

The Devil, Christ rebuke him, would give cheers
To see you soil the love you're cherishing
By letting cold resentment freeze your tears,
Instead of having them dried by your King.

Friend Jack, don't let yourself be cut off so!
It isn't love that wants this rage to grow.

I just don't know what to say.

But if Heaven is just a locked safehouse, then I just want to be dumped into space, just to wander. So i won't have God talking to me all the time, it's not like he's ever said a word to me in the past.

Heaven is NOT a "locked" anything; it is precisely the largest, most free and spacious place there can possibly be. It is Hell which is the locked place. And as for God speaking, He has many ways of doing so. In this context, it is often unfair to tell people "You're just not listening;" but it is perfectly reasonable to say that you may not have realized what to listen for.

Fantastically written, Mr. Fox ;)

Jack of Blades....I don't know the situation, and I may be overstepping my bounds, but I'm gonna say it anyway. You said Heaven is a "locked safehouse" that you want no part of. Just look at those words though. A locked safehouse...how reasuring is that?! It is not locked so that no one can get in. It is locked because there IS infact a way in, but only one true way in. That should not be discouraging, but comforting, because we know what that way is and it's not hidden from us. Also "safehouse"...how can that not imply something amazing. Once we've come to the Lord and declared that His teachings are truth, we WILL finally be in that safehouse where the Lord's protection and love surrounds us. I just ask that you don't get discouraged. Continue to pray and talk to God. He will always answer, whether that answer be yes, no, or just wait a while.

Wow, Joseph. Very nice, and very true. Beautiful.

But if Heaven is just a locked safehouse, then I just want to be dumped into space, just to wander. So i won't have God talking to me all the time, it's not like he's ever said a word to me in the past.
I'm trying to understand what you mean here? you clearly don't want God talking to you, yet you say He has never spoken a word to you yet. Well, why would He if you want to insure you have eternity without His talking to you?

If, in reality, you do want to hear God's words to you, and if you can read a rather adult book, I would suggest Waking the Dead by John Eldredge. I, like you, had never "heard" a single word from God in my 40 years (off and on) of following Him.

I read this book and began to practice what Eldredge preached, and very slowly and very softly, I did begin to hear God's words, specially to me. Maybe it would work for you, too. I hope so. Good luck.

If I was as good as you, professor, I would have written something like that to him too.
But my writing skills aren't enough sometimes.
Jack of Blades, i really hope you go through that bad situation and I hope you find a new perspective of what Heaven really is.
:(

I've tried, sweetie. My pile of rejection slips could stuff an armchair. Everybody wants to do the fun things, and as it says in Ecclesiastes, "time and chance happen to them all," i.e. breaks will come or not come for reasons not even slightly related to talent.

But I'm still wanting to market "Sophia Renee" as an audiobook.

Alright I know we haven't talked much in the past, but I just have something to say, hear me out, JoB.

I'm 17, and for the past say 6 years, I've almost completely ignored God. It's just, I never felt him there, and when I looked to him for some help, it seemed that I never got it, so I just gave up.

For this past season of Lent, I had decided to give up music. About half way through, I decided to switch it, which isn't really a good thing to do, but I did it anyways. I started to pray again. That was my commitment. And you know what, I pray enerstly not, just like a fling thing where I did before. It's like almost not even prayer, it's a private conversation with Him. I talk about everything, I ask him for guidance, and I do throw in some official prayers. But for the first time in such a long time, I feel something. I'm not scared or ashamed anymore to go to Confession. I willingly will choose to go now.

I don't know if you pay attention to the Prayer Requests board, but I recently put in a thread asking for prayers during the passing of my dear dog. The night she died, and before we had recieved the unfortunate news, I prayed to God that if it be His will that it was her time, let her please go peacefully. I was granted that wish, and that was my first real sign that yes, there is a God, and he does answer your prayers, but it is HIS will before yours, but thats okay, because His will is always in our best interest.

I thanked Him for what a blessing my dog was to our family, and those are the kind of prayers that really mean something. He's not always going to "bail" us out, but he will provide the strength for us to pass through these hard times.

I'm not saying you should follow exactly what I did, because we are all different and nothing works exactly the same for the next one. But I strongly urge you to TRY. This is the Easter season, one of the most important times of the year, God is most certainly listening if you only seek him out. The path to Heaven is not an easy one, but it's completely and utterly satisfactory to take the hard path and succeed.

Best of Luck, my friend. I hope you get through this struggle of yours sooner than later, and know that if you ever need to vent, you can do so, because, to be honest, you really don't know me, and that can sometimes make venting easier.

Alright well take it easy,

- Gannon

Thanks, Gannon; I don't know about Jack, but that blessed ME. Prayer as direct speech to God is the best. And I also had my prayer granted for the painless passing of the last dog I had (OR will have).

The following is the FIRST sonnet I have written about an IMAGINARY character originating on The Dancing Lawn. (I had considered writing sonnets about the characters in my "Alipang" story, but so far have not done so.) This is really my way of honoring "my little salty-heart," Spanish Inquisition.

TO SMERDYAKOV THE DUCK

Amid the forum's daily nip and tuck,
I took off shoes I'd walked in through the muck.
Before I knew it, somebody had snuck
To steal the dirty shoes--a purple duck!

I knew he was a duck: he didn't cluck.
He also didn't fly; so in my truck
I overtook him and exclaimed, "You schmuck!
I want my shoes!" He answered me, "Tough luck!"

But he was not so sassy once I struck
Him hard as Eric Lindros hits a puck.
My stolen shoes he thus was forced to shuck;
But then I felt compassion for the duck.

A friend like Smerdyakov won't pass the buck,
So he and I grew close as Jim and Huck.

to Copperfox

Your sonnets, Copperfox, are sheer delight
to read to savor and reflect upon
and now to giggle at! Yes what a sight
you painted with your words and purple fun

How do you manage with such blithe aplomb
to capture us by witty turns of phrase?
And how injecting humor do you don
the wise fool's cap and prod us on with grace?

More time to praise your pen I wish I had
but laundry calls and we must pack and dress.
Hmmm... why must leaving on vacations glad
mean first such work in cleaning house and stress?

And so adieu until I've gone and come
back from the mountains and my rest is won.

Here is a *cough* sonnet I wrote about TDL... It's not very good...

Here's to a place I feel tightly bound
where kindness and info is shared
where friend's warmth leaves you feeling safe and sound
and no new comer ever feels scared

Here's to a place where discussions are fun
about topics of different kinds
with the friends we've made, and we've made a ton
we can share whatever crosses our minds

Now, here's to brilliant series themselves
what brought all of us all here to start
from sharing our favorite books from our shelves
to sharing our love from our heart

Here's to kindness I can't begin to tell
Here's to Narnia. Here's to TDL
