Sonnets Here, In-House

For Anna Pendleton

Three out of three! Three times you clearly scored
With messages of truth, one set to rhyme.
Your first revealed that wisdom from the Lord
Comes often from those who have spent long time

In serving him. The next recalled for me
The story of the Good Samaritan.
It might be called aggressive charity
When your tale's hero fought Leviathan.

Most moving was the third, for my own life
Has tasted of the sorrow painted there.
That kind of loss occurred to my first wife,
Though your Mom had still more of it to bear.

Keep writing, for your pen makes ink from tears!
May your adventure last for many years!

Wow! Thank you Copperfox!!!! That was wonderful!
And I am really, really sorry about your wife...I know how that must hurt.
You know, it is interesting...that misscariage was a couple years ago...and my mom is going through another one right now. I read that story to keep my spirit up. It is funny how I can remind myself...with myself! It's amazing how times like this draw us nearer to Christ.
Thank you sooo much!!! LOVED the sonnet! First one every written for me. :) May God richly bless you.

Wow...what a testimony of Christ she must have been! And I am sure she still is in the lives of many!

Another Dose Of Solemn Thoughts

Though my retirement pay might be delayed,
A certain someone figured that Brazil
Deserved a heap of monetary aid
To do what we're forbidden--that's to drill.

But cheer up, Joseph! Irritating facts
Like those may soon lose power to offend.
When one's whole world is melting down like wax,
One can forget a bad financial trend.

With our nuke stations built on earthquake faults,
And Middle Eastern fascist elements
Advancing, we may have to stop the waltz;
"Prepare to meet thy God" gains relevance.

Let souls make sure there's oil inside their lamps,
Before the power grid has no more amps.

Actually, compared to all that's really going on in the world, my sonnet was OPTIMISTIC. But our true hope never was in this world anyway.

Verses Upon the Realization that I Am One of
the Old Folks Who Complain about Their Health

Today I mostly wasn't feeling hot:
Blood pressure high, and nothing seemed to help.
To find an illustration of myself,
My body is a bit like Camelot.

King Arthur was besieged on every side;
The schemes of Mordred only were one part.
Likewise, the things that want to stop my heart
Surround me like a hungry lion-pride.

When this new sonnet's done, I'll go outdoors
For still another walk around my town,
One more attempt to force that pressure down,
And stay, for now, upon the mortal shores.

It sometimes feels like life's a dirty trick,
And evildoers never once get sick.

EDIT: I'm back now; and so my friends won't be TOO alarmed, I can report that the latest walk did bring the numbers down some.

Thank you, Zella, I was beginning to think NO ONE had even noticed. I'm not out of the woods yet; this morning, after BOTH medication and exercise, I was grateful to see my diastolic number get even AS low as ninety-one.
