Basically, we found this ring that creates a wormhole to travel to other planets, all around the galaxy, but in a matter of seconds. It is called the "StarGate" program, and it's purpose is to get allies and technology from other planets more advanced than we are.

It's a tv series.

There was a movie, but it was adapted to a better TV Series.

StarGate SG-1

and now the spin-off

StarGate Atlantis

aye. and don't watch the movie. well i guess you could. but ididn't like it. i found it very...eh... should i say it? umm..... no i won't that would not be very kind to r--well it's star.

My sister still doesn't like SG-1 "because they got different actors for the roles." Even eight years and over 150 episodes of Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks as O'Neill and Jackson can't justify the replacement of Kurt Russell and James Spader's 2-hour long roles as O'Neill and Jackson.

I got used to the replacement quickly (saw the original movie in the theater and liked it, but now I like SG-1 better), but she still prefers the original movie. So, if she likes it, I guess watching it wouldn't be a complete waste of time.

There may be hope she'll like Atlantis. (How can you not love Rodney McKay?)

aye. true. and i guess you could be a bit bias to the origonal(which i am to for a few things). so yeah. you've got a point there, Dragon. and a good one.

I never liked Kurt Russell as O'Niel. It doesn't suit him. O'Niell is to wise cracking, thats why Richard Dean Anderson suits him. He can do that I have no idea what you just said, But I'll act like I do anyway look so well. Kurt Russell could never do that.

Oh. My. Goodness. Have you guys seen the plot information and photo galleries for the Atlantis and SG-1 season finale?! Go to Gateworld.net now if you haven't.

(spoilers)

The sg-1 finale sounds awesomely crazy! They go back in time to where Ra, Apophis, etc. are still alive and well and they do something to alter history, and so the alternate future versions of the team get together and go back in time to fix things. I really simplified what was on their webpage. Sounds like it's much more involved than that.

And in Atlantis, looks like there is going to a big battle with the Wraith using big honkin' space guns and that sort of thing.

Looks like it'll be a great end of seasons!

Can't wait for SG1 Season9 and Atlantis Season2!

Oh snap! That sounds amazing! When will the finales air?

Kurt Russell was alright but Richard Dean Anderson is the far better choice for O'Neil. Monkeh was right when he mentioned that the actor needed to be able to have a dry humor. Kurt Russell is not that effective with comedy. I do however like James Spader because he's so weird and a great actor but Micheal Shanks is someone I could really love. He's looks sorta like Spader and he does a great job.

Not really sure exactly when the finales run, but the last half of the season begins January 16, and they show one new episode a week, so the finales would be about 10 weeks after January 16.

New Atlantis news update: Paul McGillin a.k.a. Dr. Carson Beckett has been promoted from recurring character (in Atlantis) to regular. What does this mean? Well, it means we'll be seeing a whole lot more of him, probably with a larger role in each "season2" episode as well as a part in the next season's opening titles.

Sounds cool. Atlantis and Sg-1 are just getting better and better in my opinion.

well, I just saw five more episodes of Atlantis (The Eye, Hot Zone, The Defiant One, Sanctuary and Before I Sleep) which will air next month. Pretty sweet. "The Eye" and "The Defiant One" are especially good, as are any that includes Dr. Zelynka and McKay together.

Oh, and SG-1's next episode Gemini is really good. "Repli-Carter" is back and looks like we'll hear of her again! Thank goodness for www.suprnova.org or I'd have to wait and watch them well, when they air. lol.

Looking forward to the dvd box sets. and on to seasons 2 and 9.

truth be told, i haven't watched Stargate in a while. maybe a few mins every now and then, but mostly re-runs. so... yeah. i knda miss it though...

Stargate is my all time favorite movie and when I learned of the tv show Stargate SG-1 I hated the idea. But from the first episode I was hooked. It has taken me a while to warm up to the idea of Stargate Atlantis but it's an alright show. Not as good as Stargate SG-1 though. :p
By the way, any of you going to GateCon in July?

GateCon is a Stargate convention that features many of the stargate actors and crew and is a gettogether for the fans. I'm not really sure what goes on there; I've never been to any conventions. To answer your question, Nymph, I won't be there.

New episodes air beginning next Friday!

Arrrggggghhhhhh. I have episodes 1-16, then ep 18. and am getting 19, and 20 tonight/tomorrow. I want ep17. But I can't get hold of it :(. Its the only one I need. Then I have the whole 1st Season.

sweet. I finally got "The Gift" (18); that was my last one to get. "Letters From Pegasus" (17) is pretty good as well. I was afraid it would be an overly-done clips episode, but it wasn't. My only complaint about "Atlantis" so far is Teyla. Granted, this is just the first season, and I may grow to like her more as the show goes on. Frankly my biggest problem with Stargate is the way all the people from other planets talk. It's always very annunciated ("I do not know" as opposed to "I dunno" or "beats me") and almost stiff. ...that being said, there is one character from SG-1 that gets that attitude right, and it works for his character. And I just can't get enough of him: Bra'tac. By far the best recurring character of SG-1. Now that the Jaffa are united and free, I think they should have a spinoff series - "Stargate Jaffa," starring Tony Amendola as Bra'tac.

Anyway, back to Atlantis. Those of you who saw it, what did you think of "The Siege"? Monkeh, read the next paragraph after you see it. I left out particulars, but there are some spoilers in the next paragraph.

---spoiler space for "The Siege" part 1---

I was kind of sad about the fate of one of the recurring characters (one that I really liked), but if he had to go, I thought he went out great. I'm glad the Stargate producers don't have the red-shirt syndrome that Star Trek had. They're not afraid to heighten the drama with casualties. ...and I must say, that finale was quite a finale. I loved the sweeping views of the city and stuff. And the battles. Very well done. Can't wait to see Part 3.

--- end spoiler space ---

One thing I think they should do to make Atlantis go from great to awesome is to have a villain. Now, I know there's the wraith, but they're all just faceless grunts, even "Steve" and "Bob." What they need is a mastermind, like the queen on the pilot episode. Some wraith (or maybe even non-wraith?) that assumes leadership and who can taunt the heroes from time to time.

Anyway, those are my thoughts for the day on Stargate.
