I've noticed that the forum has kinda become a haven for fans of music that I don't like..."indie" music that supports the scene/emo pop culture. I started this thread to give recognition to the happy indie bands. O.A.R., The Smashing Pumpkins, Five Iron Frenzy, Sigur Ros, Bright Eyes, Motion City Soundtrack...the list goes on and on. I, with the support of Evan, hereby start this thread to declare openly and to the public that I don't like emo bands.

yay! Relient K is Indie music, and I love them! I honestly don't like emo music either, but everyone has their style of music and they have the right to listen to it if they want to.

So, I'm joining this! ^^

Ok, I don't mean to be a jerk, but I'm also going to lay down some bands that do NOT count as indie. If you're offended...deal with it.
Reliant K
Switchfoot
Green Day
Simple Plan
Silverchair
I'm gonna say, as founder, that this club wil absolutely not support these bands. I also reserve the power to negate any statement claiming that this organization supports any band that I, personally, don't like.
Kthanks

Being emo is so overrated. My friend and I were joking around saying that we could be an emo band because all they do is scream. :p

Did you forget the All-American Rejects, Elf?

Sorry, that was a list of bands that I don't think are actually emo, more like sellout punk/christian. Yes, AAR and PatD are both emo.
Current members are

Maybe Shizuka? If she wants.

I don't hate emos. But everyone is trying to be one. The ones at my sister's HS are jerks.

Either you're emo or you're not.

First off we shouldn't be advocating hate. Sorry dudes. Maybe you hate the emo culture, but you don't hate the individual people, at least here on the forums.
Yeah I really hate how they "express their feelings" and all by doing exactly what everyone else does.

*does a dance* You mentioned Sigurrós. It´s an icelandic band*dances around* I think their music sounds a bit weird but I´m so proud of their achievement as an Icelandic band. And also their the favourite band of Elijah Wood :D

Elf, maybe it's just me, but I'm a little confused how you differentiate between emo/nonemo and indie/non-indie. I dont know how in the world you can call Relient K and Switchfoot, and Green Day emo if you don't call Bright Eyes emo. Yes, Bright eyes is more indie than the former three bands (especially his most recent albums), but that doesnt mean Bright Eyes isnt emo as well. I mean listen to "If Winter Ends" and "Road to Joy" and then tell me he's not emo

I mean, I enjoy listening to his stuff once in a while, but I'm not gonna fool myself and say he's not emo...

And Sigur Ros is one of my very favourite bands, but they're not considered Indie. If they have a genre, it'd be something like Post-Rock/Ambient/Experimental.

Here are some Indie bands/artists that I like:
Sufjan Stevens
Rogue Wave
Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah
Pixies
The Boy Least Likely To
Islands
Animal Collective
The Arcade Fire
Modest Mouse
Nada Surf
Of Montreal
Supergrass
Matt Pond PA
