So, I wish I had time to post a thorough review of The Horse and His Boy play, which I saw in Taylors, SC! But for now a snapshot will have to do.
It was wonderful...very Narnian! The acting was great and heartfelt. I liked the mechanics of the horses and lion, and the voices for Bree, Hwin and Aslan were perfect matches. I really don't have anything negative to say about this play.
I live in Houston, a flat, completely developed concrete jungle that stretches for 2 dozen miles in every direction. I am so thankful I got away this summer. I went to Florida for 6 weeks. Then the plan was to drive up to Nashville to spend some time with friends there along with a retreat in Indiana. It wasn't until I was in Florida that I realized where The Logos theater is. I would pass through Atlanta, and it was less than three hours from there! So I booked a hotel room and got a ticket for a Friday evening performance.
Everywhere I drove this summer was, of course, much nicer than Houston. But the Greenville area of South Carolina was especially charming. You could have told me I was in 1940s England, what with all the well-kept brick buildings and rolling cemeteries, and I would have believed you. So this only enhanced my experience at the theater.
I really liked the actor who played Shasta (and he was a young, lean blonde boy just like I pictured) and Corin was a close-looking match! Several roles were expanded, including that of King Lune and Aravis' stepmother. There were very few unnecessary minor changes, but at most they were only very briefly diverting.
It was a great experience. I hope they bring it back so I can go with my friend next time.
