Finishing up on The Return of the King. Really like the battle to retake the Shire. Should have been in the movie.

Yes, it should have. I'm told that real-world Britain, after the real World War Two ended, suffered a sharp upturn of government interference in people's lives. "For fair distribution-- meaning they got it and we didn't."

The Hobbit was said to be written by Tolkien for his children. Have they said what their thoughts are about it?

How many more hours would the movie need to be to add this? Not dismissing it is great in the book but movies work differently and pace differently. When you want the best version of the story go to the books. The movies are lazy and pale copies in comparison and will never touch what was pen to page.
