I have to agree that they are doing this smart. It makes a lot of sense because PC, VDT and SC have a continuous thread, much like LOTR. The Pevensies, themselves introduce Eustace who introduces us to Jill. Likewise, Prince Caspian, himself, is in all three following his Princehood, reign and the fate of his son. In addition the Narnian timeline flows very consistently and smoothly through these three.
Then they can do HHB, MN and LB separately, because they are each unique distinct stories, though still with some commonality. However, the timeline and characters are not smooth transitions. Not that this is bad, just makes them separate.
