Not Happy!

I've been playing this game for a while now, but it seems the further I progress, the more annoying the game becomes.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm a bad player or I'm not good at this kind of game (it's not a standard 3D Tomb Raider).

Anyway, I'm currently in Fiery Depths in a room with half health, many many enemies, medpacks I can't even stop to pick up and a fire barrier preventing me leaving the room to go back to the ammo repository (it recharges your ammo) nearby.

My score has been consistently 0 for the past 2 levels (due to many deaths).

I like this game, but the increasing difficulty is just making me angry, especially since not being able to get the top score in any level is preventing me from obtaining the heavy duty weapons.

The last game that made me this angry (Tomb Raider Anniversary) I had to quit because I couldn't take the stress anymore.

But I suspect half the problem is I'm playing a game alone that was intended for two players.

Wow! That sucks. I hope you can get out. I don't like games that give you rewards based on how well you perform. Usually I perform badly cause I'm a sucky player, so I like games that give you rewards for reaching a level, not matter HOW you got there. That way, I don't care how many times my character dies as long as I get to the next level and get the rewards.

Last time I gave up playing a TR, it took me about a year before I picked it up again.

Last time I gave up on a Tomb Raider, both times it took me about two years to start again, and then I went on through and finished it. Apart from Anniversary, I just can't manage to finish that game! But I've finished both Legend and Underworld now.

Hey!! It's the twin potterheads!!! Hi! *waves*

I think there I still need to finish Underwold and Annyversary. Both I stopped right before the very last battle. I'm too lazy to play them again.

Hi! *waves back, freakily the same as Tori did.*

I sort of resent being called a Potterhead though, these guys at school have been taking the mick and calling me a Pothead and suck. It's not cool.

I think that you should give them another go and get them finished, you'll feel better once you do.

Shut up Twin, you just happened to do the battle as part of your go!

!
Potter Lover then? Sounds nice isn't it?

Nope, I think this is very on topic! LOL

Yup, although Granger lover/McGonagall lover/Black lover might be cool. I love the Black girls they are so awesome, although Sirius is a noob. LOL

Ok. But they will all have to be bunched up in one single name, hence Potter Lover!! So what would a Tomb Raider fan would be called? Lara Lover? I like that title for me!!!

Yeah, this is pretty much my opinion on it.

The way I see it, Tomb Raider is an exploration game, not a kill or jewel counter game.
Are we playing Tomb Raider or Sonic the Hedgehog?

I tried to say that on the major fanforums, but stopped because it's getting close to flamer troll territory.
Much like I expected, the uber players came out and started saying with the "OMG! You couldn't do that! You suck!" stuff.
Well, it's not that bad yet, but I could see it going there, which is why I stopped.

Basically, it's all about ego.
Some player wants to brag that they got all these weapons, have the highest point score etc etc.
There's even a online tracker of your ingame score, to compete with other players.

For someone like me, who was playing the game for fun on my own, being prevented from having this cool weapon or artefact because I couldn't make the gamerscore or timer challenge is annoying.

When I realized a second (or in some cases 5th) attempt wasn't going to fix that, I quit playing.

I mean, I'd finished the game, it's unlikely to impossible I'll ever achieve the bonus goals, so what reason do I have to continue playing?

Anyway, to balance out all the negativitity, it's not that bad a game.
The dialogue between Lara and Tolec is funny, the gameplay is interesting once you adapt to the different format.
If you forget about the challenges and just focus on exploration, it's fun to play.

By the way, the challenges I really want to meet are the ones that give you the Railgun, the Spear of Light and the Mask of X---- (sorry, can't remember how to spell that).
I've no idea what the Railgun is, but it sounds like fun!

OMG. I've been playing online games for a while. Believe me, I know how some people like to brag about their skill. It's all about bragging and feeling better than someone else.

Personally, I've also been playing video games for fun, not because I want to feel better than others. So yeah, I feel what you're saying. Usually I also don't perform well in games that require a lot of skill because I simple don't have the time or the motivation to "master" a stupid game. That's not why I play games. I just want to play for fun, nothing else.

RAIL GUN. The game red faction had one Rail Gun. It's a gun that allows you to see through walls and stuff and the shots also go through matter, so you can easily kill an enemy from another room or even from two rooms away. At least that's the rail gun from that game. Different games may make the gun do different things, but I think that's the basic function (I think Red Faction may have introduced that gun to video games).

Why would you just play to brag? I play because I get a sense of acheivement from completing a game, and it's a good way to distract any stray thoughts.

Never play online against other people then. That's all they do. They brag. And some who can't master a game, hack in order to win. Unless you have the maturity not to care about what others say or do, don't play online because "noob" will be the nicest thing they'll be calling you.

We don't have any platform that goes online and even if we did I doubt we would as no one in our family cares. It's more about having fun and enjoying yourself :)
