I've re-read Eragon and it just says that she left. I did get the impression that she was dead but I don't think it's actually written in the books so it could be that she might return in Brisingr.

Oh yeah, I remember that now. It just gave more of an impression that she died....

I didn't read anything that said Selena died. Murtagh said she disappeared after Morzan died, but that's about as close as it got to saying she died.
