I groaned. “Why doesn’t Natalie like me?”
“Simple.” Chris said. “She’s a year older than you, and she doesn’t even like Celtic Thunder. And besides, if she did like you, you wouldn’t like her.”
“True.” Joey said. “You only seem to like girls that don’t like you back, especially now that you’re a big star and all.”
I sighed again, resting my head on the side of Chris’ bed. She flipped through the channels, which was pointless as the TV was muted and Viva la Vida by Coldplay was playing from her computer.
She sighed and changed the channel to the one that was set up to her PS2. Joey gave her a controller and kept the other for himself. They started playing Sonic Racers.
Honestly, I just wondered what Natalie was doing right now. Listening to My Chemical Romance? Reading a book?
“Chris, you’re a girl.” I said.
“Just noticing this?”
“Help me! What do girls like?”
“Oooh, technically, she’s a girl but…”
“Shut up.” She said as she passed his character. “If we’re talking about Natalie, just leave her alone for a while. She happens to be a lot like you, ya’ know, only liking people who ignore her.”
“That’s really smart.” I said, looking at her.
“That’s Chris, beauty, brains, and a dude in every other sense.”
Chris was, like Joey said, a lot like a guy. She was a skater, she played video games, she was great at sports, and she absolutely hated hanging out with girls. Oh, and one thing I forgot to mention, music was her life.
“Why do you hate girls so much?”
“Because they travel in packs like wild wolves and with one word, they can totally destroy a person’s life.”
Joey laughed. Just then, Chris won.
“Chris, who do you have a crush on anyway?”
She rolled from her stomach to her back, and hung her head over the side of the bed, so it dangled beside me, and stared at Joey, who was sitting near the TV.
“No-one, right now. The last person I liked was Jimmy Lucarellie, back in pre-K”
“Really?” I asked, laughing.
“He looked better when we were 5. No buck teeth, no braces, no pimples, not glasses…”
“Hey, I had braces!”
“Yeah, but it worked on you… on him it’s just…” she cringed. “Hey, hand me a piece of pizza.”
I did as told, handing her a piece of cheese pizza.
“And why haven’t you liked a guy since?” Joey said.
“I don’t know… I just haven’t felt attracted to a guy, every time I hang out with someone, they end up being a bud, and nothing more.”
Joey laughed again. “You’re so… un-girly.”
“You’re right! If any of us is girly, it’s probably the skirt-wearing one.” She said, pointing at me with her thumb.
I pushed her and she nearly fell off the bed.
She hit me with a pillow, which I quickly managed to steal from her. I hit her with it, pushing her full off so she fell into my lap.
Laughing, she hit me again.
“Wow, you two would make a great couple.” Joey said, poking Chris on the shoulder.
“…”
She awkwardly stood up and went to the bathroom. I glared at Joey.
“What?” he asked, trying to sound innocent.
“Nice going, dude!”
“I didn’t do anything!!!!”
