Tutorials

Two things: A technique and a coloring tut.

Technique: Wanna enhance the quality of a pic without using the sharpen tool? This technique makes the picture brighter and of better quality without that.

I start with this picture:
lutechnique1.jpg

Take your base and duplicate the layer, setting it to soft light, 100%. Then, go to Filters and apply High pass with a Radius of 63 pixels to the soft light layer.

Simple, right? And the quality is immensely better! And I didn't do anything other than this to it. You can use this technique after you do coloring, or if you have a soft light base layer in your coloring, stick this in!

Tutorial: This tut looks best on medium-lighted pictures. Don't do anything too dark, or fix that first, or anything too washed out, cause it won't look good. Things with some shadowing, especially on the face, are good. Some yellow light is cool, because it ends up looking bluish. Well, you'll see. =p

I start with this base:

Go to New Layer/ Solid Color and put in #66140A and set it to Exclusion, 100%.
Go to New Layer/ Solid Color and put in #B9EDF7 and set it to Multiply, 80%.
Now duplicate your base layer and bring it to the top, setting it to Screen. Leave it at this opacity for now; we'll change it later.
Go to New Layer/ Solid Color and put in #C8EEEE and set it to Color Burn, 30%.
Go to New Layer/ Solid Color and put in #0C082C and set it to Exclusion, 100%.
Go to New Layer/ Solid Color and put int #F6E4F4 and set it to Color Burn, 100%.
Now, duplicate your base layer and bring it to the top, setting it to Luminosity at 100%. Duplicate the base again and bring it to the top, setting it to Soft Light at 100%. Now, that Screen base layer will almost definately not stay at 100%, so fool around with it until you get what you like. I really doesn't make this pic lighter; instead, it controls the amount of blue on the lighter areas, making the redder with the screen layer. I like it a little more blue, so I tend to make it less, but I left it at 100% for this one. This is what I got:

Kinda nice and soft looking, huh? I really liked it. Let me see what you got!
AWESOME Nicki! Thanks! I'll definitely use both of those! :D

Oh, & thanks for that other tut on doubling a pic! =)

Hey guys! It's been a while since I've put up a tutorial, so here's a new one! I didn't make it up, so I'm not taking credit.

Since one of the layers is a layer that I can't adjust in my weak version of PS (I can only use it by dragging it onto other layers) I'm just gonna put up the link for you guys to download it from box.net. Here it is: tutorial 1

And here's a few more while I'm at it!

iResurrect!

I have a new tutorial for anyone who's interested. XP

Today we will be turning this:

into this:
w7kj11.png

1. If your image is on the dark side, duplicate base and set to Screen 100%.
2. Go to Layers > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance. Set to: 26, 19, -4.
3. Duplicate the Color Balance layer and set to Soft Light 70%.
4. Create a new layer and fill with #D1F5EF. Set to Luminance 50%.
5. Duplicate your base twice and drag both layers to the top. Set the first layer to Soft Light 100%, and the second to Multiply 37%.
6. Create a new layer and fill with #172445. Set to Exclusion 100%.
7. Duplicate base, drag to top and set to Soft Light 100%.
8. And voila! You’re done.

Note: You don't need to follow these steps exactly to get good results. Do some experimenting. =) And feel free to add textures, brushes, text, etc.

And I'd love to see some results XD

then duplicate the base and set it to screen 75% opacity

Add three new layers of 170920 and set them to screen, screen, and subtract 100% opacity.

Add a new layer of f0e7ee and set it to burn 100% opacity.

Flatten Image.

Colors/Components/Channel Mixer

Impute these settings:
Red Channel- Red: 179.3, Green: -57.8, Blue: -75.6
Green Channel- Red: -10.4, Green: 96.3, Blue: -13.3
Blue Channel- Red: -51.9, Green: 114.1, Blue: 10.4

All done :p

ilove whoever resurected this. =] My sister and I opened a design site that's going to have a BUNCH of tutorials we've made on it soon! Check it out here! My sister also designs website layouts and is possibly willing to take requests.

I used a tutorial made by flambeau from Narniaweb and tweaked it just a bit my own way. It's GIMP made.

How to take these:
HPCO01.png
HPCO21.png
HPCO22.png

Into This:
Oliver3.jpg

Open and prep image/base (crop, scale, etc.).
Go to Colors>Auto>White Balance (in PS, this is known as Auto Levels).

Add 3 fill layers of color #000d2f, set them to Screen, Screen, and Subtract all at 100% (the Subtract layer should be on the top. On other programs, you can add one layer and set to Exclusion.).
Add a fill layer of color #ca52f6, set it to Soft Light at 10%.
Add a fill layer of color #f9b2b2, set it to Soft Light at 60%.
Add a fill layer of color #dfffff, set it to Burn at 100%.

Flatten your image.

Go to Colors>Levels and enter these settings...
Value channel: 30, 1.65, 220 (input)

Click 'ok'.

Go to Colors>Hue-Saturation and enter these settings...
Master: +10 (hue), 0 (lightness), +50 (saturation)

Click 'ok'.

I added this texture: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Frodosgurl/TutorialRUS/aftermidnight3-bambinainnero.png and set it to Lightness 100% then moved it to where I wanted it.

Add a fill layer of color #404040, and set it to Lighten Only at 50%.

Flatten your image.

Go to Filters>Enhance>Sharpen, and sharpen it to your liking. (I, personally, used the Blur/Sharpen tool instead and blurred the background a bit while I was at it) Keep the completed work up because you haven't added the 2nd or 3rd picture yet!

After that open up the second picture separately and resize it to 80x80. Then I take your crop tool and bring it to 80X38.

Duplicate the base layer and set it to color. Using paint brush go over the picture with the Foreground color set to #404040. Make sure you leave the second image up because you'll be using it again in just a moment.

Repeat the the Resize, cropping, and black/white coloring on the third picture and save it.

Return to your Second picture and open the edited 3rd pic as a layer. (File-Open as layers)

Right click on that layer and add a layer mask (white). Move and feather 3rd picture where you want it on your second. When you have it the way you want it you can flatten the image or just save it.

On the first picture bring up the now fully edited second photo as a layer (File-open as layers). Move it where you want it. (I did another layer mask on that picture and feathered in the second photos edges to make it blend a little more)

You can put text on it if you want but that's solely up to you.

Then you're done!

Good idea! I'll have to showcase one of my own sometime.. I just need a graphic idea... NL really needs to get on the graphic contest ><
