when did you first watch the BBC version and what was your reaction?

I saw the bbc version a year before the new one even came out. I remember it as if it were yesterday.....Aahh.....Watching everyone freak out cause they "WERE TALKING LIKE THE HARRY POTTER PEOPLE, ON MY GOD!"(Those were their exact words, I don't purposely use God's name in vain.) .. Heh. I remember thinking, "THAT'S CAUSE THEY'RE BRITISH, YOU DOLTS!" I remember Mrs. Zwicker wouldn't turn up the volume, so I couldn't understand a word of it and I was sick the rest of the dfays so I don't remember the end. I should rent it some day....

my reaction was very surprising because i never thought that there would be cartoons in the movies(some of them) if you guys know what i mean and many other things like the beavers and more but overal i liked the bbc versions

I Started The BBC Version of Lww.When i Was 12 During Summer,my Mom Buy me all The BBC Narnia Videos.I Watch LWW,PC,Vodt and SC.For 1 Day.I Really Like the BBC Version of PC and Especially LWW! :)

i first saw the BBC version when i was in, kindergarten, i think..so that was like 12 years ago?? my brothers and i were awed at it. it was our fav. movie to get from the library!! ahh the memories...of course i like the newer one much better!!

I agree that they were both good for their own times. I saw the BBC films when they first came out. I was so happy that someone had put the stories I'd loved on film. They stayed true to the books with the exception of PC being half cut out. There are parts and aspects of the BBC films that I prefer over the directions of the newer films. They stay more true to not only the story but the characters. It has nothing to do with the actors, but rather the script. In the BBC Susan is gentle as she should be. She's motherly and a sibling...but she's a peacemaker. Peter in the BBC is strong in character because he stands up to do what's right because it's right...not because he's being forced into something or reacting to something. It made for a stronger king. In the new film they have Peter acting solely out of reactions which for me makes a sort of puppet king, lacking in inner strength and character that was inherant in the Peter in the books. Also in the BBC you see or hear more of the inner struggle Edmund has with himself and his decisions which I liked. Sure the costumes and effects were beyond cheezy...and it was very low budget, but I liked them when they came out and I still think they hold a lot of value.

I watched the BBC series around about the time they were first released (late 1980s). Back then we had only one television channel in the whole of Bangladesh and the series would be aired every Friday at 3:00 pm. I hadn't read the books back then (I don't think they were even available in Bangladesh at that time), so I found the series absolutely fascinating: the characters, the plots, pretty much everything. I'd wait the whole week for Friday afternoon to come so that I could watch the next episode.

By the time I read the books several years later, I had forgotten the intricate details of the BBC series. Having also watched the recent movie version of LWW enriched with all the special effects, I would probably find a million things to critique about the BBC series if I ever watch it again. But back in the late 80s, the BBC series as a whole was a magical experience.

I do remember the music that used to play at the beginning of the BBC series (I think it was called "Aslan's Theme"). If I remember correctly, the soundtrack of the BBC series was done by the Philharmonia Orchestra, and most of the scores from the BBC series (definitely the score from the opening credits at least) would beat the soundtrack of the recent LWW movie.

Well, I've only seen Silver Chair, and I watched that in 2004 I think, before LWW came out.

and I saw Prince Caspian just this year.

you know its annoying when you're watching it and your dad walks in and says, "What are you watching? It looks cheesy"

uh thanks dad. ><

I was very young when I watched it, I can't remember exactly how young though. I have it on VIDEO so it must have been ages ago!! :D I absolutely ADORED it!! So much that it was mandatory for everyone who came over to my house to watch it with me. :p

My older sister used to watch it all the time. But I can't remember I was too young at the time

Bummer for you Sugar Holic L. Maybe your dad will give them more of a chance someday.

(By the way, welcome to all the new people!!! Feel free to introduce yourself in the introduction thread if you haven't already!)

Well, I watched the BBC versions when I was younger (I don't remember how long ago) but I remember that I liked it at the time. Although, the last time I heard about it was when my old english teacher had her 8th/7th grade class watch BBC LWW. She (and she is only a LWW-fan) said that Aslan looked...funny...cuz you know, there were...two parts of him. (That's always what I think of when these movies come up...):o
