POP 'N' FRESH ARTICLE:
Next up, the Prince Caspian presentation. On the panel were Ben Barnes (the titular Prince Caspian) , William Moseley (Peter Pevensie), Peter Dinklage (Trumpkin) and producer Mark Johnson. Footage here was an early screening of the full-length trailer, scheduled to hit IGN.com in HD some time next week and theaters after that.
For those not familiar, this is the second in the latest adaptation of the C.S. Lewis' fantasy, in which the four Pevensie children return to Narnia – a year later for them but 1300 years for the enchanted kingdom.
The actors promised a Narnia “much more warlike, more adult and scarier,” according to Moseley.
Since this is his first lead role in a major film, newcomer Barnes drew on his own emotions to portray Caspian.
“It's vaguely terrifying,” Barnes said. “Caspian is very young .. very nervous and ambivalent and I go literally on the journey with the character.”
Moseley's character, Peter the eldest Pevensie, finds a rivalry with Caspian in this movie.
“In the first movie, (Peter) is the reluctant hero. It's hard because he has no idea what he's doing,” said Moseley. “Now, he has to put his ego out of the way and do what's best for the group. He becomes the leader that can hand over Narnia. ... But it's like two alpha male dogs trying to take over the pack.”
“Peter knows Caspian is the only hope for Narnia,” Barnes added.
Dinklage's character, Trumpkin the dwarf, premieres in this film. Trumpkin is a “reluctant hero,” according to the actor.
“He hasn't seen the magic of Narnia,” explained Dinklage, though the actor experienced plenty of movie magic to get into character. Trumpkin has never been seen and was not revealed here, but the costuming involved three hours of prosthetics.
Johnson added that the movie was on a learning curve from the first movie and corrected the mistakes made there.
“This time we've made a bunch of new ones."
The plot is action-oriented and the actors clearly took pleasure in that.
“I loved the fights, running around with swords. ... We all embraced it. Who wouldn't enjoy that?” added Moseley.
“The best part is we play the good guys, so we can never really lose,” Barnes said.
Prince Caspian will hit theaters May 16.
