My sister Tammy is the same one who received a message of divine comfort through music when my Janalee was called to go Further Up and Further In. Tammy is now at the hospital with our Dad, and was able to get this message out just minutes ago:
An actual GI doctor just came to see Dad, who just finished receiving his accelerated second unit of blood. That doctor said he would like to check Dad's hemoglobin again in case this morning's result was wrong. If the level comes back acceptable, then Dr. ________ would think this morning's result was a lab error. Dad was pale this morning, though, in spite of his other vital signs' being good, so his levels were probably at least somewhat reduced.
When the hemoglobin level results come back, and if they are still disturbingly low, then this doctor will order a CAT scan of Dad's abdomen to rule out other internal bleeding, since there is so far no evidence of bleeding anywhere in his digestive tract. If the CAT scan comes back showing no other internal bleeding, then they will go ahead with the test we thought they were about to do, a "push endoscopy," I think. The hemoglobin results should be back in an hour or so--maybe less. I'll let you know when I know more.
