The Lion’s Call Interviews Kevin Eslinger

The Lion’s Call got an interview with Kevin Eslinger, Master Replicas’ Product Designer for the Disney division. He created the Chronicles of Narnia replicas, found here at NarniaFans.com.

Q: The full-scale replicas of Peter’s Sword and the Witch’s Wand are stunning. If the line does well, can we expect to see the other Gifts recreated at full-scale? Lucy’s Bottle is a stunning piece, which I personally would love to have on display.

A: I hope the product and the movie does fantastic at market. There is a lot more that we could do from the movie. We did talk about making Lucy’s Vial as a 1:1 prop replica. I would hope we could revisit that in the future. It is really a beautiful piece. I would like to see some armor replicas from the characters in the White Witch’s Army as well. Many of the characters have amazing bas relief work on their chest and shoulder armor.

Q: Why were the sword and wand chosen to be the two props recreated in full scale, among all the choices?

A: The simple answer is they are the props from the main good character and the main bad character from the movie. They also happen to be amazing works of art. I believe that they complement each other very well. The Blue and Silver of the Wand versus the Red and Gold of the Sword. I am going to have both hanging on my wall next to one another.

Q: Were any props considered for reproduction, besides the Gifts and the wand, which, for one reason or another, were not included in the product line?

A: Peter’s Helmet, Peter’s Armor, Peter’s Shield, Peter’s Scabbard, Lucy’s Vial, Lucy’s Dagger, Susan’s Horn, the Wardrobe (scaled), the White Witch’s Dagger, and many more.

Q: Why?

A: You don’t really want to over saturate the market with product. Companies can kill a license with too much product. Wasn’t is Elvis’ manager that said, “you always want to leave them wanting more.”
