Richard Dempsey is the actor who played Peter in the BBC’s “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” He’s now 33; and will be in the stage show “Dirty Dancing” starting next week at Aldwych Theatre.
He told the WHT: “I knew I wanted to be an actor when I played Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Holy Family School in WGC. I was about nine years old at the time and I had this ‘lightbulb’ moment. It came out of the blue for me as no one in my family is in the profession, but I just fell in love with it. I used to go to the Barn Theatre in WGC too.”
However, it wasn’t until he was 14 that he got his big break in the CS Lewis Narnia tales on TV.
“I was really shy at the auditions though,” he said. “Everybody was putting up their hands to play parts in the auditions apart from me. But the BBC recognised something different in me and being in the series was a great experience which never leaves me. People still talk about it now.”
Since then the former Sir Fred’s pupil has gone on to star in ITV’s Sherlock Holmes series, Inspector Alleyn, Wycliffe and stage shows including Fame.
He will play Neil Kellerman in Dirty Dancing, the geeky son of a holiday camp owner.
“I’m trying not to play him as a geek though,” he explained. “If you think of him like that it makes him harder to play, so I’ve concentrated on the subplot where he is involved in civil rights.”
Richard will be appearing at the Aldwych Theatre from Tuesday.

I do have some expirence because i went to stagecoach acting classes for 3 years but stopped when i started 2ndary school because there was drama club there.
I cant say i’ve always wanted to act cause i would be lying, up until i was 9 i wanted to be a fairie, but i know that i want to be an actor purely because it brings me happiness.
I’m around 5ft2ish and weigh around 8st(i’m just a bit under).

I made my dad buy the extended version of each DVD to see the background of the filming and I have always been envious of Georgie after I saw her audition. Also, why did you start with the Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, when The Magician’s Nephew is the first book, and then skip another? Because I think that would have been amazing to film! Wow! Turns out I’m not the only one that has wanted to play Jill Pole in The Silver Chair for sometime! Who knew…I’m turning 14 soon but I’m small for my age(5’1”, 95lbs.), and people always think I’m younger. I have chocolate wavy brown hair and brown eyes, with a medium skin tone(not light, but not TOO dark). I have been acting my whole life and would love to get an audition but don’t know where to look. I’m actually American, but I’ve had lots of practice perfecting an English accent and I’m pretty confident in it. If anyone has ANY information at all about when and where auditions for the Silver Chair will be held and what requirements are, I put my contact information up there, it would be greatly appreciated. I’m in a military family-we’re stationed overseas at the moment but should be returning to the US in 2011 or 2012.
