“Aslan” to become an American!

NarniaFans has just learned that Aslan voice actor Liam Neeson has decided to apply for US citizenship. In an interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC’s Good Morning America he said that he has lived in America for twenty years and that the country has been good to him. He cites the outpooring of support from fans following the death of his wife Natasha Richardson a few monthes ago, as his main reason for coming to this decision.

Neeson said in the interview, “I’m still a proud Irishman, of course, but I’ve become an American citizen. I’m very, very proud of that.”

News sources say that this was the first interview that Neeson conducted since his wife’s passing.

From the American NarniaFans, Congraulations, Mr. Neeson! Welcome to America.

  1. Gosh reading the headline I thought an American actor was to replace Liam as the voice of Aslan.. Whew! Good on him if he wants to become an American citizen! As long as he is happy so am I.. though to me, he will always remain Irish =)

  2. Yeah you almost killed me there. I was near tears for a second… lol. But I am proud to hear this ;). He is one of my favorite actors, and I’m glad that he will soon be a fellow American.

  3. sorry about the sensationalized journalism for the headline. I perhaps took the lessons I learned in my journalism classes about making sure a headline has a good, attention getting hook too far. But when an actor like Mr. Neeson is known more for his role and voice, at least by fans I figured that was best. Sorry for the confusion!

Just for the record, as far as I can tell for the foreseeable future Mr. Liam Neeson will always be Aslan. Lets hope it stays that way!

  4. Scared me half to death. Be a tiny bit more clear about titles next time. I’m so happy Liam is still going to be Aslan. I would probably stop watching the films if he left. Aslan needs a British accent.

  5. Wow! That’s cool he’s applying to be a citizen. I hope he has success here again.

  6. Wow, that’s WAY cool! I think i’d be able to understand if he didn’t show up in VTD because I mean, losing your wife isn’t the easiest thing. I’m glad he’s becoming an American citizen though. I had no idea he’d lived here for 20 years! Cool stuff.

Can’t wait to see the results. I’d think he’d get his citizenship. He’s just cool like that.

  7. BTW–that headline is really good. It really catches your attention! Way to go!

    • “Has decided to apply for American citizenship” does not mean the process of his becoming a citizen is complete. The headline still stands.

      • The article clearly states “…I’ve become an American citizen. I’m very, very proud of that.

    • I was going off of what the American entertainment news sources were saying, which was that he was in the process of becoming a citizen. I should ahve double cheked with the BBC…They’re usually the better news source all around anyway.

      • Read the second paragraph of your own news article above. :o) It’s easy to cut and paste and not really read what it says, isn’t it? I’ve done the same thing myself. :o)

  8. Good for him! It was such a sad thing when his wife passed away, but I’m proud to claim him as both an American and an Irishman. 🙂

  9. too bad, i WAS hoping ASLAN would become an american, maybe he could have a rocky balboa accent for the next movie! ha ha
