If you don’t know who Weta is, you’ve probably not been paying attention to movies for the past ten years. They’re the company that is behind The Lord of the Rings, the weapons and armor in The Chronicles of Narnia, and most of Avatar. When I visited New Zealand last fall, I spoke briefly with Sir Richard Taylor whom I happened to run into at the Weta Cave, and he said that they were pleased to be involved in a very small way with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Did they create anything new for the film? Well, yes and no. They did create some new pieces for the film, but the filmmakers did use swords and armor that were created for Prince Caspian and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, obviously. Their newsletter just went out that confirmed their limited involvement with The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, though, so I feel comfortable confirming that the rumor is true.
Weta also has a sale on some of their Narnia statues from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Well, that’s great! When thinking about Narnia as well as Lord of the Rings I can’t help but think about Weta. It’s great to know that they’re a part of Dawn Treader!
Even if they hadn’t made anything new for Dawn Treader, they’d still be involved with it, in a way. After all, the things they made for the first two films are still hanging around! 🙂
I love that they have a cave.
yay! Weta is amazing! wonderful wonderful artists!
