A few months ago, our forum software started to show its’ age. We were using older software, but because so many sites still used it, the company behind it kept releasing security updates. But they announced that they would no longer support that version of it. Rather than upgrade our community to a version that I had only seen complaints about, I finally made the switch to a different forum software entirely.
We were able to seamlessly move ALL of the members and content over to the new software, and we’ve started developing the style for the forum.
In doing this, we’ve also started doing some re-organization. We’ve created new areas for discussions, based on threads that were commonly found elsewhere.
We’re still working on the graphics and art, but we have been enjoying it thanks to all of the new features that having modern forum software brings.
You should also see that the forum is now super easy to use on a mobile device. That’s right, you can read it and reply all on your cell phone, just as you would on your computer!
New features include:
- Multi-user group messaging
- GIPHY integration
- Tagging other users in a post
- Link unfurling (so we can see a preview of the content that you link to)
- Media embedding (so if you link to a video on a popular video website like YouTube, it will automatically become an embedded video)
