What Narnia book is Greta Gerwig adapting first?

The Magician's Nephew

A while back we heard that Greta Gerwig was possibly adapting at least two books, or making two films, in the Chronicles of Narnia adaptations being produced for Netflix.

Now there’s news as to where she’s starting, and it came from an unlikely place: A list of favorite books from someone who has no reason to make something up: Jason Isaacs. In a column on The Week, he shared his favorite books, which included this:

Actor Jason Isaacs has no reason to lie about this. He has nothing to gain. Does he have something to do with it? Could he be playing a role? (Uncle Andrew?!?)

That said, this is an interesting place to start, and what I’ve long believed to be the right move for starting a new adaptation. We’ve had 3 adaptations of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (four if you include the one from way back that has been mostly lost to history), two of Prince Caspian, two of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and one of The Silver Chair. We’ve never seen The Magician’s Nephew, The Horse and His Boy, or The Last Battle. By starting with The Magician’s Nephew, we get fresh content that we’ve never seen live before. How it all turns out is anyone’s guess… but I’m a wait-and-see person, so I’ll leave it at this: let’s wait and see. I hope it is magical.
