Dawn Treader a Semifinalist for Visual Effects Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science has announced the semifinalists for the 2010 Oscar for Best Visual Effects. It is up against some very strong competition.  It will be interesting to see what finally is nominated. Narnia definitely deserves the nomination, though.  The visual effects are incredible.  I could see it going up against many of the films listed.

Alice in Wonderland
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Clash of the Titans
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
Hereafter
Inception
Iron Man 2
The Last Airbender
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Scott Pilgrim vs the World
Shutter Island
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Tron: Legacy
Unstoppable

The list will be narrowed down to seven in early January by the Executive Branch of AMPAS’ Executive Committee with the final nominations announced on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at 5:30 a.m. PT, live from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2010 will be presented on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.

  1. I really hope it makes it–but Percy Jackson? I wasn’t that impressed with the visuals in that movie (though my overall distaste for the mauling of Riordan’s amazing book may have influenced that opinion…) I can definitely see Alice in Wonderland making it, as well as Tron: Legacy (if simply for the digital de-aging of Jeff Bridges) and from what I heard, Clash of the Titans was horrible. But really, REALLY hoping Dawn Treader makes it!

  2. VDT does not deserve best picture like PC or LWW should have received. I believe this year’s best picture is Toy Story 3.VDT completely deserves and award for its fantastic cinematography. The awesome landscape shots were gorgeous.

  3. i think it will be Inception , i really really think so! well lets see ! 🙂 hope Dawn Trader wins 🙂

  4. AWESOME!!! Although I don’t really know WHY it is second! The special affects at some parts didn’t really impress me.

  5. I hope Deathly Hallows part 1 wins. They haven’t received any Oscar awards. I hope Dawn Treader gets in the top seven though.
