The 19th annual MovieGuide Faith & Values Awards Gala was held a couple of nights ago and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader took home a prize it definitely deserved.

    • It is NOT.

And how in the world did Shrek Forever After get in front of Tangled and How to Train your Dragon?! Good grief.

      Congrats anyway, VDT! 😉

    • I’m surprised Despicable Me made it. It wasn’t horrible, but it was kind of… horrible. I understand why people like it, though.

      • Really? I loved Despicable Me! It was so cute…and well, maybe it didn’t have that much of a life lesson for kids, definitely for parents, but it was so cute!!! 🙂 And the little yellow guys!!! Don’t even get me started. 😀 LOL

        • Yeah, it was very cute, but that’s pretty much all the movie had to go on. It would have made a great short film, IMO.

      • Despicable Me was awesome, It had a good well thought-out story, excellent voice acting and animation, and the ending was really unexpected, granted you did expect gru to choose the girls and save the day, but the way in which that happened was really genius. It also had humour, humour that was well balanced with the minions added for some Slapstick, no gross humour either except for the one shot of the minions with a copier… And I really didn’t see how the movie could have been shortened, It was well edited. Anyway awesome movie that definitely deserved the number 2 spot, sorry narnians.

As to shrek the 3rd, I don’t know, I haven’t seen it, I don’t want to see it, but I know my Mom watched it and said she actually liked it, which is a big deal. So it might have been better than tangled IDK.

  1. Toy Story 3 for me was…well…only okay. I must tell you, I am a Pixar fan. I loved the first two. I went into the theater with high expectations, as all of the positive reviews convinced me to go. Sadly, it was not what I expected. It was pretty dark for a rated G film, and the plot was kind of predictable. I do think it is very overrated. Many people say they cried, but I never felt emotionally connected with any of the characters. The movie spent too much time on Woody in my opinion, and it felt more propaganda than Pixar. Now I’m pretty worried what will happen with Cars 2.
But I thought Dawn Treader was one of the best family movies I have seen in my decade and three years. There is so much more to learn about than temptation. I am very glad Dawn Treader is getting some recognition now and hope for the rest of the books to be turned into wonderful family films.
Sorry my message is a bit long. I just had to give my opinion.

    • I don’t really care for any of the Toy Story movies overmuch, but I admire them greatly. All three have had amazing plots, great graphics of each one’s time, and are amazing entertainment for children. So I do think that the third installment deserves first place on this list, and it did make me tear up in the end, despite the fact that I’m not to huge a fan (of Toy Story.. I adore Pixar!)

All that is not to say that I don’t think that VDT was better… Dawn Treader was much, much, MUCH better LOL! Glad it won an award =)!

    • I kind of agree with Lauloudi about TS3. It was much too dark and filled with sexual innuendos for a G rated film.

      • I don’t remember sexual innuendos in it. At least off the top of my head. I do remember the end of the movie being better than most entire movies that I saw all year.

          • Echoing that….

            ????????????

Really, the only thing in there is the very, very sweet romance between Buzz & Jessie. And that’s very innocent and child-like. Or toy-like?

Definitely glad this movie won – it was awesome!!!

          • Gotcha… yeah… not much there either. There’s one pun that was in the trailer, but it’s pretty weak. “Love your leg warmers” and “Nice ascot” both refer to articles of clothing. Although the word ascot is used to comedic effect for the older crowd, it is the scarf that Ken was wearing.

  2. Although i saw Narnia VODT more at cinema, The Last Airbender is my favourite film of 2010 as well as past few years, with VODT being next – but TLA’s publicity targeted market segment that actually dislikes these type of films… so has gotten quite bad reputation.

Despite that, was still successful especially world wide and something some other narnia fans might like alot also.

  3. UGH! Tangled should be # 2!!!!!!!!! And, of course, Narnia should have been #1! 😉
    But 3 is pretty good!
But…I can’t BELIEVE Tangled got so low! It was AMAZING!
Anyways…glad Narnia placed 3rd…that’s pretty good!

    • I knowww aye!!! Tangled was really well done despite the changes of the original story….it was sooo funny and the animation is soo nice as always with disney lol…but its soo sad to hear that this is the last fairytale-princess film they are gonna make…what a shame but its doin soo well at the box office 500M..hopefully this result will change their minds 😉

And i am soo glad VDT got an award.congratulations!!!!!..and i hope it wins even more awards..it was a great film 🙂

      • i still havent gotten to see Tangled yet, but my sister and some of my friends have seen it, they all say it was very good, so im hoping to see it soon

        • I hope u do soon Queen Nellie lol…no doubt you’ll enjoy it for sure hehe….I hope u enjoy it …wish u all the best 😉

      • Tangled is the last one!? I never heard that! 🙁 …They should do a sequal to Tangled!
I LOVED the music! I even got the karaoke to “At last I see the light” it is sooo much fun to sing!

  4. Oh…and How to Train Your Dragon should have been 3rd… 😉
    Just my own ratings. 😉

    • I loved that story, too. So exciting and funny and poignant… definitely one of the better Dreamworks movies.

  5. I LOVED Toy Story 3, LOVED IT!!!!!!I’m so glad it is in the first place.
    Congrats VODT!!!

And… TANGLED??? Why everyone loves that movie? THE WORST FILM EVER IMO, I really thought that it was going to be a great movie but… PUAJ!

    • WHAT!?!?!?!?!??!? You didn’t like Tangled!? I thought it was AMAZING!

  6. Loved all those movies…that I’ve seen. I agree that Tangled and How to Train Your Dragon should have gotten higher. I haven’t seen Shrek Forever After (was never really into the Shrek movies), and I want to see Letters to God and Megamind. I would have switched Despicable Me and VODT (though that’s a hard one–they’re both so good for different reasons). I’ve never heard of What If… What is it about? A great list all around.

  7. Well..Looks like I’m the only one who’s seen only VDT among the list and it certainly deserves to be among top ten 😛 But I’ll see the others during hols,surely..
    Glad for VDT..FNAFA 😀 😀

  8. All I can say is that Tangled, I would say a good movie, but what spoils it for me was its emphasis on the “sun.” Just makes me think some kind of a pagan symbolism here, and Walt Disney just made some kind of a reputation connected with it.

Toy Story 3 is really, really good, but I think the sexual innuendos are there, subtly, especially with Barbie and her partner. That part makes me laugh, though for a child, it turns me off.

Narnia 3 is what I can say, the most harmless of all the movies listed up there. Despicable Me and Megamind has all the values in it, and they’re really great, but some parts of them are not that good if we want to put values into their minds.

  9. Tangled was too “girly”, how to train your dragon was great(loved the detail), I have yet to see toy story 3, Dispicable Me was also great, and obviously Dawn Treader was also. I think this is one of the best years for movies in history.

  10. So glad to see VDT get well-deserved recognition. I am still upset with Christianity Today’s movie reviewers not even giving VDT an honorable mention in their top 10 list of best movies with a redemptive theme. I wonder if they are aware of VDT’s recognition at the Movie Guides Faith and Values Gala? Thanks, Paul, for going on the CT site and defending VDT.
