Experience the Spiritual Conversion of C.S. Lewis Through the Song “Addison’s Walk”

“Thus the work begins with sound of the river in the background and a haunting wisp of HOLY SPIRIT floating in the wind, ready to perform its work upon Jack, though he did not know that others were to be his inspiration.

So begins a pastoral acknowledgement that all is well with his atheism and, though not filled with SPIRIT, the gentle allegory of the walk with his friends and the reasoned arguments they offer give him a sense of purpose and camaraderie.

The music moves to a more purposeful emotion, where the reasoning and arguing by them all is mirrored by the insistent arpeggios and counterpoint which serve to illustrate Jack’s mounting anxiety that perhaps the “myth” is real – or is it?

A pregnant pause, where the wind suddenly gust and blows and the men stand awe struck as the leaves fall and dance in a heaven sent shower, propelled by SPIRIT, upon the wind!

His mind is, for a brief time, quiet with contemplation that he might really have to stop struggling – and this is perhaps demonstrated by the quiet piano passage and introductory theme on woodwind that bursts into the new modulated key where he finds ecstasy and GLORY and acknowledges he had found the LORD
