Official Narnia Blog: ‘Five Questions with Will Poulter’

Will Poulter as Eustace Clarence Scrubb

Today, the Official Narnia Facebook Page has added a new interview with Will Poulter, which was conducted by publicist Ernie Malik last September. We’d like to introduce you to Will Poulter, who won the role of the irascible brat, Eustace Clarence Scrubb, in the THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER.

How did you come to get the role of Eustace? What was the audition process like for you?
I was really lucky because I got to go to the very first audition in London. But it was postponed due to the writers’ strike in America. So, six months later, they contacted me and asked if I would like to audition again. I was lucky that I hadn’t really grown much; otherwise it could have been difficult [to be considered for the part]. So, I was really lucky to get onto the next round of casting, and then I finally got to meet [director] Michael [Apted] and audition with Georgie [Henley, who plays Lucy] and Skandar [Keynes, who plays Edmund]. I was a complete newbie, and hadn’t really done much film work, so I was very nervous in the audition. Then, Michael rang me up and told me I got the part, which was really, great. I should also say that it’s been over two years since I first auditioned for the role. I had already done “Son of Rambow” at that point.

  1. He did a good job in Son of Rambow. I thought it was a good decision when they picked him to do the part of Eustace. I seen Eustace in him in his role as Lee Carter in Son of Rambow.

  2. Well, he’s got Georgie and Skandar to help him get through the newbie thing. Some kids like Dakota Blue Richards had no one in her age range and acting skills when she first took up the role for Lyra in Golden Compass.

  3. wow i like narnia so much, and i hope that i can play in narnia film as jill pole. . .

    • haha….. you’re right. Jill’s a lovable character. I also wish to get a chance to play her

  4. It would be awesome to get a role, especially one like the character of Jill Pole. Unlike Eustace, who had the Pevensies, who were king and queen of narnia to help him, she has a much less “experienced” companion in Narnia. And she has to do a bit more thinking for herself than Eustace did in VDT. If they do go ahead with SC (and I hope they will), I’ll bet one of Jill’s audition scenes will be the first scene in the book (behind the gym).

    • It may not be the first scene exactly, but yeah it would one of the first ones. I would be more excited to do Aravis in HAHB (Horse and his Boy) or Polly Plummer in MN (Magician’s Nephew).

      • Hi I’m Amy and I’m just so anxious to know where and when the auditions for Jill Pole are. Does anyeone know?

    • Yeah, Jill, Aravis, and Polly are all very strong female characters in the books. Any one of them would be fun to play 🙂

      • I should I know I’m not in the movie business. I was simply expressing my desire if I was. Besides I’m probably too old to play any of those girls.

  5. I totaly saw the likeness between lee Carter and eustace.

Yeah, Jill is my favorite characer. I really wish I could play her. We also have a lot of similarities. How do you audition?

  6. I notice the interview is dated last September. Is this the first time this interview has appeared online?

  7. You shuldn’t be nervous Will. You were a fantastic actor in son of rambow and you played your role really well. and i gaurante you’re going to do even better in this film. So you shouldn’t be nervous. xxxx
