We’ve just posted the ninth edition of the NarniaFans Mailbag. We’ve answered seven letters this week, including such topics as the age of Prince Caspian and ages of the actor they may cast for, and more!
Q: Hey, it’s me again for like the 3rd time (sorry I just love Narniafans so much and got so much to ask!) I was watching the DVD of LWW (for like the 250th time) and as well as knowing that it’s the most amazing movie ever made, I’ve noticed sooo many mistakes that they made. For instance, in one shot Lucy’s hair is behind her ears, then it’s hanging around her face a shot later and the next it’s all messed up. I know editing is very hard, but why do you think they were so careless?

A: Hello Nellie! Thanks for the question. First of all, I don’t believe it to be a question of carelessness. I edit video myself, and I know what a chore it can be to keep continuity up to par, especially when you cannot re-create the same weather as the day before. On a project the size of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, film is expensive, and shots are very time-consuming to capture. When it comes to editing shots together, there are a few ways to do it. One of those ways is to look for shots that flow together perfectly. Sometimes, though, the shots that work best together do not have performances as good as shots that don’t match completely. They make the call to keep the best performances so that the movie is top-notch, and they look to be sure that the glitch is something that isn’t completely noticable. If that is the case, then you have to allow it.
Q: HI! In the Narnia original soundtract Imogen Heap sings ‘Can’t Take it In‘. When the song is almost at the end a boy sings: “I can’t take it in”. Do you know his name or who he is by any chance? THANK YOU!!!

A: Actually, I don’t believe that a boy sings on the song at all. Imogen Heap has a very wide vocal range, though, so I’m pretty sure that it’s her.
Q: Hey, it’s Claire, Nellie and Sabrina. We’re best friends and we LOVE Narnia! We’re at school at the moment sending this question:
Do you think they will make all the Narnia books into movies and if so, when do you think they will make the last one?
PS: We think that if they make the Deltora Quest books into movies, William Moseley should play Lief!

A: Yes, I think that they’ll make all of the Narnia books into movies. As for when they get to the last one, it could be about 12 years away or so, sadly. The Last Battle is the one that I’m looking forward to, most!
Q: There is a song played when the children are on the train and leaving London as the camera pans out and the train is in view. Can anyone tell me the name of the song or who sings it?

A: That was the track called “Evacuating London” on the LWW Score by Harry Gregson-Williams. The vocals were sung by Lisbeth Scott.
In answer to two 8th week questions, you said: “A: Thanks! I’ll answer both e-mails at once, as they are related. I know that they have not yet found a guy to play Caspian. It will probably be announced around November or December. In the book, Caspian is 13.”
Caspian may be 13 in PC, but he is also between Peter and Edmund in age. So they are going to need to find someone who looks between them in age and height. And that might make him more like 15 or 16. Any comments?

A: The rumor has it that they’re looking at boys in that particular age group, up through age 17 or so. That way, he will have the proper height and they could find someone that looks around their age, so that it fits the book. Remember, actors don’t always have to play their age, and many times they don’t.
Q: Hi again. Why in some character information not all the facts about it are avaliable? I really think there should be more info about important characters. Thanks!

A: Honestly, the Character pages are a feature that we’re still working on. It’s going to take a long time to post in-depth information about all of the characters. We’re trying to keep them as spoiler free as possible for people that have not read the books. We plan on updating them after each film is released, and hope to get to the characters from LWW very soon. If you would like to contribute data to the character database, you can send a well-organized e-mail with that information (and cite any sources if it’s not original material).
Q:Dear Staff,
Several weeks ago I was reading the fanmail regarding the “international reply coupons” that you have to use to mail letters to the cast. Well you see, I sent a fanletter to Anna Popplewell and I send it to the agency that is here in the United States instead of the one in London. I haven’t got the letter back. So, can you tell me what happened? Do you think that letter made it through? Or, it wasn’t necessary to add the international reply coupons on my letter? Please respond soon! Thanks!

A: Honestly, this is one question that I don’t have the answer to, nor do I have the ability to find out what happened to your letter. You’d be better off asking the agency, if you can find a phone number for them. It could be that they’re just incredibly busy or have a ton of letters to go through, but I have no way of really knowing, as I’m not connected with them in any way. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help!
