New Spanish Dawn Treader Banner?

MundoNarnia has discovered what looks like a new banner for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The banner is in Spanish, and says “Embark on the journey. Live the adventure. Discover Narnia as you’ve never seen before.”

The banner has Aslan, The White Witch and Reepicheep as the central focus, not to mention the Dawn Treader. The odd thing is that the sail on the ship is only half opened, which we’ve seen on another poster in the last year.

It also features King Caspian all of the children. And when I say all of them, I mean Eustace, Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter. The appearance of Susan and Peter in the banner is a repeat performance in Dawn Treader promotional material, as they’ve previously appeared in a standee. It comes as no surprise to me, as so many comments that I have seen in the last few months have been Peter and Susan related (mostly from those that haven’t read the books, and sometimes from those that have and miss the parts that mention the characters). Personally, I don’t have any idea what they’re doing in this film, outside of what I’ve heard to be very small cameos, as well as what has been reported from a screening of the first ten minutes of the film. I don’t want to know until I see the movie, though.

  1. I know there was that horrible promotional image earlier in the year that an unfinished sail on it… but at least they remembered to photoshop out the scaffolding from the set which held the sail in place! Seriously, if that is a professional piece of marketing, then whoever made it should be thoroughly embarrassed with such an effort. I would say its “poor attention to detail” but its not even a small detail – it’s a massive part of the design! It just looks so badly done that i cannot believe it could be in any way real. The sad thing is though, given how shonky some of the other genuine promotional material has been, it probably is real.

    • Um… I know very little about ships, but I think what you’re looking at is what holds the sail up. I was watching a TV show one day with a ship that had its sail down and that’s exactly what it looks like. Besides, when all the videos from the filming were coming in, they hadn’t even built that part!

      • The lines and poles looks like the rigging for the mast, as Defender says. I don’t think it’s scaffolding, and I actually think it’s a pretty nice poster.

      • Nope. That is scaffolding from the set. It was constructed in such a way to allow the portion of the sail they used in filming to hang in such a manner as if it were hung from a full sized mast. The ship at cleveland point did not have a full sized mast or a complete sail on it.

If you look at any image of the finished Dawn Treader, it has the full sized mast, a complete sail, and definitely does not contain the metal scaffolding. It’s inexcusable that it could be left on a finished movie poster.

  2. I agree with icarus, why the scaffolding? But I think it’s interesting to see that Susan and Peter (what can see of them) are wearing what look like English clothes. Anyone notice Susan’s wearing high heels?

    • I also noticed Susan in heals and a ‘English’ skirt. But I think Peter is in high ‘Narnian’ boots. At least that’s what it looked like to me. I wonder if the only reason Susan and PEter are in this movie is to show Susan slipping away, and once and for all not excepting Narnia.

    • As I said before, that “scaffolding” is what holds the sail on a real ship. It’s where they put the crow’s nest and stuff. At least, if it is scaffolding, they did an amazingly detailed job, making it look like something that would really belong on a ship.
I did notice Peter and Susan have English clothes. I also noticed that while all the others appear to be looking intently at something, Susan looks like she’s shivering. I wonder if that’s on purpose or an accident?

    • yes, they really purposely showed that, what with her lifting her foot up and standing away from the others- she was probably corrupted by coming to america- LOL her withdrawal from narnia has begun….. : (

  3. Cool banner! Wish the United States could have some posters like this, rather than the one that’s been appearing everywhere.
