Angela Barlow

Biography: Angela Barlow was originally trained as a dancer. Her teacher, Nalda Murilova, danced with Diaghilev and Pavlova, so the Russian influence was strong. Murilova’s assistant, Grace Greenway, was a member of the Sadler’s Wells (later the Royal) Ballet, thus giving Angela a double artistic heritage.

Angela went on to train in drama at LAMDA, and since then has been lucky enough to play a wide range of parts with an equally wide range of directors and actors, on stage, screen and radio.

When researching her play After Chekhov , she realized a long-held ambition to visit Russia. Particularly memorable was a visit to Chekhov’s grave in Moscow where he lies next to his actress wife Olga, and a private tour of his dacha at Melikhovo, where he wrote The Seagull and Uncle Vanya .

Angela’s one-woman shows on Charlotte Brontë, Olga Knipper-Chekhova and Jane Austen have given her career a literary turn of late, thus qualifying her to use the word ‘thus’ in two paragraphs in this section.
