I've read a number of articles about The Hobbit and it is scheduled to start filming next year. Only problem....no director. New Line's feud with Jackson is still there and doesn't look like it will let up any. Jackson wants to do the film. The grandson of J.R.R. Tolkein told New Line that he wants Jackson to do the film. Ian McKellen wants to reprise his roll as Gandalf and Elijah Wood said he wouldn't mind playing Bilbo Baggins either.

Personally, I think any Middle Earth film done without Jackson may be doomed as far as being the creative blockbuster the other three films were.

They changed the date to 2010 and it is rumored Ian McKellen will play Gandalf!

The director is gonna be: Guillermo del Toro
The co Director is to be: Peter Jackson

So I've read.

I thought Peter Jackson was to be the Producer...but I might be mistaken.:)

And yes, it's very likely that Ian McKellen will play Gandalf again. He said on his website: “Yes I will, if Peter Jackson and I have anything to do with it, he being the producer and me being, on the whole, a very lucky actor."
I do hope he will! He made a great Gandalf.:)
