Sonnets Here, In-House

For CaspianGirl

I hope your mouth has gotten past the grief
Of bleeding, whose discomfort can be dire,
From sockets where there once were wisdom teeth;
I wouldn't want you missing out on choir,

Or missing out on confirmation class!
It's pleasing that you take to that so well;
The teacher will enjoy so bright a lass,
Whether or not the teacher's your Michelle.

And Sarah, Cee-Eff-Ess-Girl, must be fond
Of you for joining in her praying thread;
You've gradually formed a loving bond
With her, to help her face what waits ahead.

Wherever you may travel, your kind heart
Will make folks miss your face when you depart.
That is such a sweet sonnet! I can't believe I never even recognized this topic sooner! And my teeth are doing fine now BTW. ;)
Thanks so much! :D

You're very welcome, C-Girl. Now I invite you to suggest someone else whom you consider worthy to have a sonnet written about her or him.

Okay, I'm not getting any new recommendations, so I'm picking a new target essentially at random: POKEMAINIAC.

This sonnet, unannounced, may draw some flak;
I don't know my new subject, that's a fact.
But there's no cause to make a nasty crack;
I'm sonnetizing Pokemainiac.

This random choice helps prove I have the knack
For sonnets, and my rhyming doesn't slack.
Young friend, I simply took the time to track
Your posts, and found you 'neath a Union Jack.

I think you had some kippers as a snack,
And certainly your name is in the stack
Of Sounding-English tips; you do not lack
Advice on British forms of talking smack.

I hope that you will find the safest tack
To sail to the Lone Islands; do come back!

In contrast to the preceding sonnet, this one is about someone I do know: someone who has been an acquaintance of mine for years, and whom I lately invited to join this forum. I will use only her new username, since it's her business whether she wants to tell her true name.

To The New Member "Beloved"

The soup was good, the pizza wasn't burnt;
The conversation, nothing could surpass.
We sat with Calvinists, and those who weren't,
Expanding on discussions from a class.

My Janalee still was with me back then,
Disabled and in pain, but brave with hope;
And you, now called Beloved, were a friend
And listener to problems for us both.

Young sister and old brother--we have each
Gone separately through the depths of grief,
Each having cause to give an angry screech,
And asking the same Savior for relief.

We share God's consolation for what's gone;
Henceforth we also share The Dancing Lawn.

^That's so sweet and lovely *applause*

Sometimes, I wonder...how many vocabs in your brain could remember to made lines with those perfect rhyme...geezz...

That's a wonderful sonnet! So well thought-out. She is lucky to have a friend like you!

Ah, the best thing since flushed toilets and unleaded silverwear.

"Beloved" has remarked elsewhere that she could stand to be sonnetized again; so--

Young lady, something of a Thomas-boy,
Who loves the winter sunshine: such a sight
Was also loved by Jack's beloved Joy,
Who spoke of it to him as "Arctic light."

Like Joy the former Gresham, you have known
The pain of running into treachery;
Our God, I trust, has not left you alone,
But used His healing touch creatively.

Your discipline in praying I admire,
Not needing a mechanical command;
You seek the Lord with generous desire,
That other souls would meet His healing hand.

Your splash upon this forum will be big,
And you look better than your guinea pig.

Now, there's another dear young lady who deserves a sonnet. She will be able to read the title in Russian, which identifies her username here. If the content makes little sense to the rest of you, consider it an inside joke between her and me.

ДЛЯ "БЛАГОДАРНОЙ СДАЧИ"

I count the weeks until the day when I
Shall meet you here in Colorado; then,
Unless a blizzard pours down from the sky,
I'll show you sights that go best with a friend.

I'll show Tashonda "Garden of the Gods;"
And Glenda will see Buckley Air Force Base.
Miss Nederlander, I will give you odds,
Will find my church a hospitable place.

We won't let Lowell interfere with us,
When seeing where the festival was held;
But trusting God to be magnanimous,
We'll pray for true-life stress to be dispelled.

You'll see a state which holds much of my past;
Your future here, I hope, will be a blast.

Heh! Thanks, C! (Although I think my guinea pig is pretty doggone adorable)

Forgive me for forgetting, but who is Jack/Joy and the Gresham?
