lol testing guns on twilight books.

My sentiments exactly. I was quite pleased when the last HP film was released. It marked the end of the petulent commericals that have aired for the countless years on TV, DVD, and theaters.

Don't breathe a sigh of relief just yet. There's word on the horizon that Warner Bros. will re-release all the movies (even the latest two?!) in 3D. Why don't they re-release LotR while they're at it?! Enough with re-releases!!!!

I get a headache whenever I think about Twilight anymore. When I was about 13, Twilight was what the Hunger Games is to me as a 17-year-old. I was ENTHRALLED by the books. And to be honest, I don't think they impacted me negatively at all. Looking back on the story, I can definitely say that it is flawed, and if I tried to read the books again I probably wouldn't enjoy them as much as I used to. But that doesn't mean that the series has no value whatsoever. The thing that frustrates me is that virtually EVERYONE uses the whole franchise as a mindless punching bag (or in this case, a target for gun testing). My question is... if you really hate the series that much, why waste your time complaining about it?

The only thing of "value" I see in Twilight is the fact that Bella and Edward just happen to wait to be married before having sex. Other than that, I see no value in a girl who cares nothing for herself and instead wants to be a walking vampire that she'll throw her own soul away. Nothing of value in that kind of material, me thinks. And I "waste" my time complaining about it because I hate the obsession and the fascination that goes along with the books/movies.

and ES, I concur, though I just take a Halls cough drop and keep going. ;)

Twilight is such a terrific series. I love every book, sentence, and part of them. People always have to respond negatively to what they are afraid of and don't like.

That's not entirely accurate. Just because YOU like something doesn't mean that someone who DOESN'T like it is doing anything wrong.

Uh, I daresay I've NEVER stated I'm afraid of the Twilight series (try to find a post of mine that says otherwise). I disagree with its content on a Biblical basis, which is something I've made sure to make clear in pretty much any post on or about Twilight. Yeah, I don't like 'em, but I also didn't like Dawn Treader (2010) because of how the movie was made. Doesn't mean you can't have YOUR opinion about the movie, I just strongly disagree with you about that opinion. And I have my own issues with Christians becoming so involved/absorbed in things like Twilight that I have a hard time reconciling their witness to what they watch and read. I'll be the first person to admit I am not perfect in that area, but I was also raised to believe that movies/books like Twilight (and yes, even HP) were things Christians should stay away from.

And thanks you two; I think you said concisely what I just did. :p Personally, I think the thread has gotten too serious for being a duffer thread; if you can't laugh at parodies, or someone else making fun of something, you don't have much of a sense of humor. I laugh at parodies of LotR all the time, IF they're clean and actually funny (Lord of the Beans, anyone?)

I still think that unless SILVER bullets were used...or a stake was pounded through the books...they would come back.

I was in a tired mood when I wrote that yesterday. I wasn't really meaning that towards anyone on here, because everyone is nice. I also was referring to vampires. I don't mind when my favorite things get made fun of, because it's good to find humor in life, and to laugh.

I must say that the movie amused me and I have more than once considered completely destroying a book. I was given a book by a prof as a "you disrupted my class and stumped me to many times to not be recognized" gift. I will not lie, I considered burning it, though target practice would be fun too. However, I cannot and will not justify purchase of book for the purpose of destroying it. It is a waste money. The output to satisfaction ratio is just too low to even consider it.

My dispute with Twilight is multi-faceted. I am not fond of Vampires (even sparkly ones) in general. Also, anything that promotes a devaluing of human life or an era of promiscuity, or for that matter objectifying the human body has no value in my opinion. Twilight, again in my opinion, serves only to highlight what is wrong with our society. In addition, it makes being feminine into a joke. In all, it does far too much to promote values in girls that are as malignant as cancer. Objectification of humans encourages predation or the need to be preyed upon. From what I understand, Bella is too much of a Damsel in Distress and relies to heavily on the men in her life; sadly enough, that reliance might encourage someone to stay in an abusive relationship or seek out a new one after the old is removed. Encouraging promiscuity at all is abhorrent, the audience for Twilight is not emotionally ready for the consequences of Sanguine love. Promoting what has fundamentally been evil as good is also abhorrent.

I once tried to destroy a DVD of Twilight with a high powered rifle. Problem is, my aim was TOO GOOD and the bullet went right through the hole in the middle of the disk....

Thankfully, I hadn't given reputation to you recently, and was able to do so upon reading this post. I definitely agree, and believe you hit the nail on the head especially with your second paragraph.
