Here's a tip for you. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1965-1970, a small publisher, I think it was called Tower Comics, created what was really an innovative series for its time: "T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents." The heroes had various technology-dependent superpowers; but what made the series stand out was that heroes in it COULD DIE. At least two of the heroes died heroically during the lifetime of this comic series. The leading hero was a super-strength type called Dynamo. This should be worth looking up, because it represented a step toward realism.
