All 7 Books,To Be Filmed

VDT is my favorite book and LB is the second favorite....so I'm most excited to see them, but also the most worried/scared about seeing them. It's the symbolism that makes them so special...it's Aslan that makes them special...I have a feeling that best element will be untouched or left out. It's hard to make a movie about the, shall we say "living quality" of the books if it's an element not understood or accepted by all making it.

I agree, although I was quite impressed by The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Prehapes they will do it right and keep the symbolism special. Prehapes they will surprise us.

As for me my favorites are VDT, THHB, and TLB. I'm excited to seee all threeo n the big screen, however I hope they bring the feel of intensity in the LAst Battle to life. I think they'll need to make t more violent and add in some elements to make visually live up to the book.
 
Well, the panel reinforced their commitment to stay true to the books and to try to be true to the stories...but that they'd embellish some here and there. So, we'll see. I know there's no way to please everyone. They're gonna do the best they can do.

I have faith that they will do a good job and please many fans. But nothing can ever trully compare to the books. Because no one will be able to film them the way you see them with your imagination (except you of course lol).
 
But they are not Christians or Muslims, they are Narnians and Calormenes. I am sure steps will be taken so that the themes are not offensive to Muslims (or Christians), and then it can certainly be done. Hooray!

That is exactly right, but I really hope they are able to avoid any identifable references to Arabs or Muslims in general, first because Lewis did not give any in the books, and second there will probably be some group watching and waiting to point out a part that is objectionable to them. Then the ACLU will get involved and there could be a huge mess. I hope not though. If Aladdin didn't cause any major problems, then why would HHB?

And I really want to see all seven made, but I especially want to see SC, MN, and TLB. The Last Battle probably going to be the hardest though.

It is hard to show the Calormen as not being identifed as Turks. I guess you could make them out to be Spainards but you would have to totally change their appearance from the books. The Calormen armies are a human army, so it will be hard to not associate with an invading Turkish army. And you have to look at what is happening in Turkey. How Turkey is becoming radicalized like the rest of the Muslim countries. I just don't see Disney wanting to touch HHB and LB. I can see them making MN as I said, though it is a very different story than the other books. I am not trying to be a sour puss. HHB is my favorite Narnian book behind LWW. It is a beutiful story, with very identifiable characters. And we will get to see Lucy, Edmund, and Susan as they were as Narnian Kings and Queens. I really do hope they make HHB.
 
Changing the Calromens from being turkish would be a mistake. Must we always cahnges things so it's politcly correct? Why can't movie makers just make them like the books, afterall if you don't like what's in the books don't bother seeing the films. Sorry if this seems a bit harsh, but I'm tired of everyone living in fear of offending someone. You should see how some Muslim movies depict americans. Anyways I thin kthey should keep totally true to the books.
 
Stickly speaking The Calormen's religion is not much like Islam. But Disney did have problems with Aladdin. They had to rewrite parts of the opening song. And Alladin was a pre-9/11 movie. Maybe with a lot of "embellishing" the Calormen can be made to not be too Turkish. But Tashbaan and it's customs are so like Istanbul. It is hard to know what the politics of Turkey will be in 4 to 5 years. But recent elections there shows it is becoming very radicalized and there will be a fear not to antagonize a Muslim nation. The good news is if they can get alway with doing HHB and not create to much of a stir then LB can easily be made. But much of HHB is very controversial. The harsh treatment of Shasta, and Aravis being married off at such a young age. These are customs that will be hard to show. But if HHB is not made then LB will be a totally different story, because we are not introduce to the Calormen. They will come into the Narnian narrative out of nowhere. It has been discussed on another thread to just drop HHB and that would allow you to embellish the Calormen into another type of nationalty. There is nothing partically Turkish about the Calormen in LB except what you know about them in HHB. Again I do love HHB and I would die if it is left out of the series.
 
Also the idea that Lewis didn't insert Turkish idea's and customs into the Chronicles is ignoring the fact that "Aslan" in a Turkish word for lion. He knew he was adding a Turkish taste to Calormen.
 
Oh, yes, HHB has a true "Arabian Nights" feel to it, but I think they can manage it the same way Aladdin was managed, so it doesn't come across offensively to Arabs or Muslims.

I think TLB is going to be the hardest one to make into a movie with anything like the force the book has. But I am certainly looking forward to it, perhaps that one most of all. The response to each movie has to stay strong in order for them to keep making them, so I hope PC and VDT are really, really good, so they will keep the momentum going.

no. i sincerely hope you're being sarcastic. there's a reason lewis could accomplish in 200 pages what rowling accomplished (or at least attempted to accomplish) in 800 pages. i could go on and on but i think that's not what this thread is about.

re: 7 books to be filmed... keep in mind that it's all pending on the success of future narnia films. i still think they should be cautious and not try to adapt HHB and MN for the big screen (straight-to-DVD with lower production value is fine). because i have a feeling these two will fail at the box office, and if these films get released before LB, their lack of success may result in LB not getting adapted at all, and LB is a far more important sequel than either HHB or MN.
 
I think that the other 2 will do well in the box office.They're going at the movies not in a series way of thinking...and yet they are trying to keep continuity..but they want to make sure each film could stand alone as a good film so that people who just see any one of them will walk away saying 'that's a great movie." Each of the Chronicles are different. Each one can stand alone in most respects. I'm not thrilled with the script writing team, but I think that they'll do ok with the other movies enough to get LB done. They're exciting stories...and with all the battles and intrigue in HHB, there won't be too much of a problem in keeping people's interest. The thing they'll have to watch for is changing things TOO much and making too many fans too mad about it. There are limits to what and how much can be changed in the minds of most fans where if things go too far they won't spend their money on it. We'll have to wait and see, but I think they'll do well with the general public.
 
It becomes hard to please both the fans and the general public. If theyo nly please the fans they risk not appealing to the general public, thus costing them money. If they don't stay faithful to the books and change too much they lose the devout fans. It's a tuff balancing act, that very few can pull off. However I have faith in Walden Media, and that they will do a good job.

Never more agree with SG....yeah..you already said it all.

I just hope that they would change THE MAIN PLOT from each story...modification is fine and so far..we can see that the Walden's LWW is so much better than the BBC's ones
 
Dani do you mean wouldn't change the main plot? Personally I'd take the script from the BBC ones and make it Walden style after that with the Walden actors overall, but I like the core script of the BBC ones much more myself.
