I know I'm a little late, but I actually got to do a marathon event at my local theater with well over 400 Harry Potter fans that led up to the midnight showing of the newest and final movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.
Here is my review, albeit belated:
As an avid reader of the Harry Potter books since I was 11 years old (which wasn't when the books were first released, but the first time I had ever heard of them.) and a member of a family of Harry Potter lovers, I had geared myself up for the completion of the Harry Potter film series, just as I had for the release of the final book released in 2007. As it had been a long-standing tradition with my mother and I, something we had bonded over since the first time we read the books, I felt mixed emotions. I felt like it had to be perfect, and yet at the same time, I knew it never would be. I wished it wasn't ending, if only to preserve the bonding relationship my mother and I had enjoyed over the books, films and every bit of Potterlore we had come across. As I mentally geared up for it, which started back when Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released and I came to realization there was only one movie left, I signed up for the marathon at my local theater, thinking it would be a good way to bid farewell to my favorite childhood fantasy series.
I was astounded by what happened the night of the release, and heart-warmed to see how many real fans had come out to witness the marathon with me. It was a huge part of my childhood, and I will admit that seeing, communicating and witnessing first hand how many people had been affected by the same series I had loved as a child gave me what I needed to finally be excited about the last part.
The Review on the Movie Itself:
Though the movie often deterred from what I imagined it would, it was overall great. No movie based off a novel will ever get it 100% right. Reason one is time restraints, reason two, everyone interprets what they read differently, and number three, Hollywood wants things their way. It is the way it is.
Still, I loved the movie. I think a lot of it could have been described better, but I believe it was a beautiful ending to a very wonderful story.
I knew Part 2 would be a lot more action than Part 1 had been, following the progression of the story, but between the battle, there was a lot of good messages to be heard.
Also, there is one word uttered in the film that was rather foul. (The scene where Molly kills Bellatrix) I can't see how they could have done that scene without it. The force of the word is meant for that scene and I believe it adds to it.
Anyway, I know it's likely not a special review. Just wanted to put in my two cents!
