Thank you for the thought, Hermoine. Wood Nymph and I are not hearing back from "Darlene." Like most people who have been treated badly, "Darlene" is cautious about opening up to people-- even to people whom she has met personally.
 
HermoineLucyRedek-Chase : Since I last posted here, Wood Nymph and I encountered "Darlene" again, at a different club. Precisely _because_ we had not bugged her in the interval, "Darlene" willingly _opened_ a conversation with us.

Meanwhile, we've also made acquaintance with _another_ metal band, called Distant Warning. At least one man in this group is a fellow military veteran.
 
For the benefit of those who imagine that metal music is automatically hostile to God. This hymn rendition WAS NOT intended as mockery.

 
When Wood Nymph and I started this thread, WE NEVER GUESSED that we would someday happen upon THIS example of an eccentric metal cover. Just let some stuffy person try to argue that a VEGGIETALES song could ever be demonic!!!

 
More of Miss Liljestam's videos have been turning up lately. Do you hear me complaining?

Now, modern-day Sweden is about as Christian as North Korea. But although the words of this unfamiliar song were not clear to me, it does not SEEM to have any God-mocking intent.

 
Just since posting the above, I watched Madeleine Liljestam, and one of her band members named Rikard, being interviewed online. They remarked that Swedish metal bands get more attention _outside_ Sweden than at home.

Madeleine is just as good-looking _without_ stage makeup as with.

I have said to Wood Nymph that the lead singer for Nightwish sounds very similar to Madeleine. So guess what? It turns out that the band Eleine has _opened_ for Nightwish. I would post the interview here, except that a naughty word was uttered.
 
I like Alternative Metal like RED, a Christian band. But Black Sabbath.. their very name is what Satanists call their meetings. On top of that the Band Black Sabbath was interviewed and said on stage they had freaky demonic stuff manifest. So I’d advise her to drop Ozzy’s Band, and just because he claims to be Catholic means nothing, Ann Rice does too and her Vampire books have really elevated the demonic.
 
HermoineLucyRedek-Chase : I regret to inform you that the girl I call "Darlene" has not only NOT joined Dancing Lawn; she has ALSO not so far chosen a healthy lifestyle. Aslan doesn't FORCE anyone to come to Him.

It is not wrong to call the thread "And Rock Begot Metal." There are instances where first- generation metal bands adapted strictly-rock songs. Quiet Riot adapted a song by the ROCK band Slade as what Wood Nymph calls "glam metal" or "hair metal." What I share here is the original rendition.

 
You may have seen the very short advertisements which precede YouYube videos. I've just seen such an ad: about some kind of hard-metal music festival planned for 2025. "The Summer of Loud" promises to feature no fewer than eight bands. But the ad neither tells WHERE the event will occur, nor provides any way to obtain further information.

It must have been intended as a teaser, and the organizers will EVENTUALLY provide specifics.

I am reminded of an odd occurrence from when I was young. My native state of Illinois began running public notices on television, saying that the 150th anniversary of Illinois statehood was approaching: obviously a valid cause to stage celebrations. The announcer said: "There'll be lots happening, and we'll keep you posted!" But the Sesquicentennial Year came and went, WITHOUT EVEN ONE public event ever being specified on the air.
 
The following item is NOT EVEN SLIGHTLY related to hard metal music, but it's JUST TOO GOOD to ignore.

Today, Wood Nymph and I heard some really odd news about CLASSICAL music. Somewhere in Europe, in Vienna I think, some classical musicians figured out how to MAKE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS from...... vegetables???? I suppose you could stretch a drumhead over a top-cut pumpkin, or turn a smaller squash into the bell of a trumpet.

The radio news item gave no audio samples, but insisted that the experiment succeeded at producing in-tune music. The only drawback was that no such instrument lasted longer than one concert. Still, it must be cool to GROW your instruments in a garden.
 
Okay, _this_ one is about actual metal. I've mentioned Nightwish before. Note especially, in this video, the reviewer's remarks about how a guitar solo fits into the song.

 
A choice of T-shirts can make a difference.

Last weekend, Wood Nymph and I went to one of our favorite clubs, in the north suburbs of Denver, to see a metal tribute show featuring our friend Joshua Lanier, a terrific singer who is a Christian. Besides him, two other guys new to us were at the club. These men both had interesting histories .....AND both were fans of Britney Spears. Guess whose T-shirt I was wearing?

Always good to make new acquaintances. And we all agreed that Miss Spears MAJORLY DESERVES some vindication and healing, after the injustice and horrible treatment she endured for years.

Near the same time of year as I first came to know Aslan, metal-music giant OZZY OSBOURNE has departed for Aslan's Country. Once again, Christians of the stuffy sort will be harrumphing to each other that Ozzy must be in The Bad Place now, because his music MENTIONED evil things. But Mister Lewis also described evil, e.g. in "Screwtape Letters;" and Lewis was not at all WORSHIPING evil.

Metal music, very much like the blues, recognizes that there IS pain and evil in our fallen world, but this does not equal cheering for the evil. Tonight, Wood Nymph and I will be north of Denver, at the same club as I mentioned in the previous post, to hear three bands we know paying tribute to Ozzy.
