Anne of Green Gables

Ah, the Anne movies are delicious! :) Back when boys still had cooties  my aunt and my mom would watch both Anne movies any time they were together and we cousins would roll our eyes and run away--only to go hide downstairs and listen to the movie through the vents. :) It was because of this introduction that I can quote the movie so well.

I agree with everyone who said they should have stuck with the books when making the movies. I read on the website or something, back when the horrid excuse of a continuing story was released, that they set Green Gables in the early 1900s when in the book it was the 1890s (or something) and that is why in the Continuing Story that Gil goes to WWI instead of Jem and Walter as it SHOULD have been.

And yes, Daydream, Rilla is a sad book, but Kenneth is as dreamy as Gil and Rilla is so much more of a likeable character at the end. Oh! That porch scene before Kenneth goes overseas when Rilla is trying to hard to be romantic and Jims won't go to sleep and she's thinking horrible thoughts and Ken is actually thinking she looks like a madonna...And then the kiss...I haven't read the book in months, but I can always remember there was mint near the steps. Ahh. (Now you all KNOW I'm an addict!) :)

The only redeemable part of the Continuing Story was the very end when she goes to pick up the boy at the train station. And even THAT was hard to swallow because it meant that any more movies that might be made would be messed up as well (House of Dreams, Ingleside, Rainbow Valley, and Rilla). Honestly, though, I was surprised at Continuing Story for not using ANY book material AT ALL (other than, as mentioned before Anne marries Gilbert, but even THAT wasn't according to book. It makes Prince Caspian look like a book-to-script film, which we all know it WASN'T.

Though Anne DID say right before Diana's wedding that she wanted to be a nun ("the bride of Heaven"..."only I'm not Catholic")

I read the books a long time ago when i was in Middle/ High school but i never watched the movies The books i remember were good i can't say much about the movies cause i never saw them i didn't even know they made movies of the books.

Oh,I love "Rilla of Ingleside"..I just thought it was sad that Anne and Gilbert's son died.:(But it was my favorite book of the series.

I like the third movie..Even if it wasn't like the book.It was such an adventure,I couldn't help but love it.:D Besides, anything set in WWI or WWII = ♥.

Offtopic, but your banner and avvy are beautiful!!Lord of the Rings is amazing!

The movies are the best!!!!!!!!:D
I love all 3,but the first one is my very favorite.:)

Ah, yes, Walter. :D I love how LMM made him so much like Anne, but yet in a quiet, pensive, imaginative way--not outspoken and impulsive. And he's such a foil for Jem, who is always his opposite, yet all the children are so close.

I also liked how Rilla wasn't considered the beauty of the family, though she was considered pretty and was rather vain in a cute way--nor was she really very smart or talented at any particular thing, yet she was the one who held the family together, supported her mom (Anne) through so much, and really did the MOST of the family concerning the war effort, with the exception of the boys of course. I nearly cried when she had to give up Jims, but I knew from the very beginning that she would be with Kenneth. :)

Thanks--I've gotten lots of compliments on my banner. It's from arwen-undomiel.com --I grew up a Narnia addict, but during college fell in love with all things Lord of the Rings, specifically Arwen (featured in my avatar) and Galadriel (who's gorgeous eyes grace the banner). Glad you like them!

I think I would have liked the 3rd movie too, if it wasn't an Anne movie. I think that was mentioned earlier.

A litle offtopic of Anne, but have you ever read L.M. Montgomery's other books?:D
After I finished Anne I read everything by her I could find, including the Emily of New Moon Trilogy,The Story Girl/The Golden Road,Killmeny of the Orchard,Magic For Marigold, and my personal favorite Pat of Silver Bush/Mistress Pat.
I love her other books.:)

Glandriel has such pretty eyes..so does Arwen.:D
My favorite character is Sam,though.:D

I was rereading all of the Anne series and I really like L.M. Montgomery's writing style, I have stolen off of her way of writing for my own style, it is so fun and easy to follow. and even though her stories were so often funny she could still tell a sad story.

Also I've only recently realized how interesting the Emily of New Moon series is, I just thought it would be a lot like Anne of Green Gables but it's not, and it's still a really fascinating story

edit: ha ha, I just realized the post above me is talking about the Emily of New Moon series :D

I love the Story Girl books! I have always loved them, they are so awesome!

My aunt keeps me supplied with all the LMM she can find, and when I am at her house I read all the ones I don't have. The Emily series is my favorite, second only to Anne. I also love The Blue Castle and the one about the girl who plays the voilin but doesn't talk...I can't remember the name of it. Emily reminds me of Anne, yet they are very different. I adore how Emily uses italics! :D

Have you seen the Emily TV show?It was ok,but I prefer the books.:D

Oh, that's right. LMM seems to like the forbidden romance thing.

I have not seen the TV show, but I typically don't...TV shows are often worse than books on messing up the story, only in their case it's to make a SHOW that needs to last for a season or 2, not a movie than needs to last for 2 hours.
The Blue Castle is a bit like EONM in the beginning. The girl is living with relatives who are trying to make her live a certain way. She has few friends. She ends up eloping with this guy, who is really secretive but exciting and genuinely likes her. She does this because she got a doctors note intended for someone else telling her she has a severe heart problem and will not live long, so she intends on living life to the fullest while she can. She tells the guy and he agrees to her plan to run off and marry, partly out of pity and partly because they're friends. The Blue Castle is a place in her vivid imagination--she reads a lot of books, aka Anne--and she names her new home after it. The question is, then, what happens when they discover her heart problem is not real? It's a short book, compared to some of LMM's long ones, but you fall in love with her characters!

^ I'll have to look for it at my library.:)

Have you seen "Road To Avonlea"?(Its based on The Story Girl/The Golden Road).I LOVE that show.:)
