Anyone like old movies?

I don't mean to bring up an old thread again, but I have a question that goes along with this, and I didn't want to start a new thread.

Does anyone have any recommendations for oldies music? I already love a lot of 50's music, but I'm also interested in 30's and 40's style. Do ya'll have any singers from these time periods that you love? I especially love the style of music like what is on the Singin' in the Rain soundtrack.

Goody,goody,goody!!!I LOVE oldies music!!!!
Here you go!!!!!
30s-40s:
Glenn Miller (hes the BEST!)
Benny Goodman
Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey
any other Big Band numbers..just subject search Big Band at your library...:)
As far as ever older,I love 20s jazz....
But 50s and Glenn Miller are my favorites....:D

Thank you so much! I was beginning to think that nobody would reply to my question, LOL. I'm going to look these up now, and find some song samples. What about Frank Sinatra or Bing Crosby? Do you like them? I really love some of their songs, but I'm not familiar with many of them. Oh, by the way, I love your location thing. :D I am a huge, huge Elvis fan! My whole room shows my obsession with Elvis. :o

Eddy Duchin is also pretty good, forgot him before...
I like Bing Crosby ,esp. his movies "Bells of St. Marys" and "Going My Way"...my favorite song by him is "Swingin' On a Star"..
I haven't heard a lot of Frank Sinatra...But I LOVE his song "Strangers In The Night"...:)

Yeah, I really like "Swingin' on a Star" by Bing Crosby, and I love all his Christmas songs, too.

I love "You Make Me Feel So Young" by Frank Sinatra, and a few more...but I'm hopefully checking out one of his "classic hits" kind of CD's at the library tomorrow. I'm excited because I haven't been able to hear a lot of his songs.

I really love Gene Kelly's voice, too. I know he was a really great dancer and actor, but I love his voice. I listen to my Singin' in the Rain soundtrack almost constantly. :p

Has anyone else seen the Pride and Prejudice that was made in 1940 with Greer Garson and Laurance Olivier? That's one of my fav old movies! (Well... with about a dozen others!:p)

No, I haven't seen "Brigadoon." Unfortunately, the only Gene Kelly movie I have seen is "Singin' in the Rain." :( It's impossible to find any of his movies anywhere in my small town. It was a miracle that my library had "Singin' in the Rain", and I loved it so much that I bought my own. But I'm going to keep looking around and hopefully find some more. :)

i've seen it. while i like the latest version best, i have to say sir olivier is my favorite darcy to date. that man can make women fall at his feet while reading off a phone book. 'rebecca' (1940) is one of my favorite films, and certainly my favorite hitchcock. laurence olivier is most dashing as maxim de winter.

regarding old movies, i've seen a lot of them and like a lot of them (and i don't really consider anything from the 70s onwards 'old'). other favorites of mine are renoir's 'rules of the game' (1939) and of course my no. 1 film of all time, 'seven samurai' (1954). i also like a lot of silent films, from 'sunrise' (1927) to my favorite silent comedy, 'sherlock jr.' (1924).

i think there's a certain charm in old films that's been lost in today's works, or more likely, replaced. being a film student gave me a certain advantage i guess, as i got the opportunity to see films others can't really access (silent films, indie films, foreign films), but i think people need to see old films as well as new stuff.

I agree..old movies were so innocent and just clean fun or entertainment....And movies today sometimes miss that....:(
