Behind the Facade

The next morning Lacara was awoken by a knock on the door. She rolled over and smushed her pillow over her ears. "Go away..." she mumbled. But the knocking persisted, even with her best effort to block it out with the pillow. "Lacara, open up!" came a muffled voice from the oppisite side of the door. She sighed and got up and opened the door. There standing in the doorway was the lady of the house, Beatrice. "Lacara, the rent's late again and I don't appriciate people sneaking out of the house at ungodly hours of the night," she scolded her like she was her five hear old daughter. "I'm sorry. I'll get you the money. Just give my 3 more days, please?" Lacara pleaded.
Beatrice sighed, "Lacara I can't afford to keep letting you off the hook."
Lacara remained silent, knowing the woman with the matted grey curls, slited hazel eyes and oversized waist would continue. But she continued to plead with her eyes. "One more day. That's it! I'll give you until noon, tomorrow." With that Beatrice walked away.
"Thank you!" Lacara yelled over top of the loud footfalls of the ederly woman. Lacara quickly and quietly changed into her best gown; a sage green satin dress with sheer sleeves and a creme boddice. She slipped on a pair of creme slippers she "found" at the market. And pinned up her long black curls of ebony. She walked over to where her brother lay sleeping. "Taka..." she whispered. The boy rolled over. He sleeps like I do... she smiled at the thought. "Taka, don't make me tickle you." And just like that the boy sat up wide awake.

I'll edit and finish this post later... Night all!

LOL that's a problem. I'm going to "see who gets voted off" and think up some "lovey-dovey" stuff. :p I'll have to tell you the kind of things I've come up with later...LOL

Yeah... but she's not going to wait at the dumb farmhouse... she'll leave for the marketplace/village or something. I'm still thinking...

"It's time to go..." she said sighing. Lacara bent down and picked up the sleepy boy. She walked through the open door and out into the farm house. She walked past Beatrice and her husband, past the huge table where they sat. She kept her head down, to not meet either of their sidelong glances. She reached the door, silence filling the house. She opened it and quickly stepped out and quietly set it back in it's place. Lacara stepped out onto the road, casting her gaze up the road. "To the palace," she whispered. It was still the early hours of light, but she still had to keep her pace to make it to the palace before evening. Within a few minutes she felt Taka's body relax in sleep.

A while later, about noon, Lacara caught sight of the village, the palace just on the other side of it. Her arms were now tired of carrying her brother, who had woken once, lost intrest in walking, and went back to his dreamland. And her legs were sore of walking on top of that.

BTW, guys, I think I know what's going to happen now... I mean just roughly around a certain line.
