Here's how it is. _EVERYTHING_ I wrote about _any_ of those characters was written in the days of impact typewriters. No electronic retention of documents. To this very day, around fifty years later, I still have stacks of manuscript pages in my basement, by the door of the laundry room. Being the full-time guardian of a young autistic woman, I literally don't have _time_ to go through it all page by page.
I invented Theocrites and his Trantean contemporaries before I was even a believer in Jesus. I depicted a pagan pantheon, and imagined a McGuffin artifact called the Starwheel, which was crucial for overcoming the demon Zonthos. Theocrites was to die heroically, but die victorious. He would leave a son, Theodorus Magus, to carry on the cause of goodness.
Once I _did_ come to Jesus, pessimistic polytheism went out the window. Theocrites doesn't die; he goes on to marry a widowed Zoramnite woman called Lanesca. Alacles fails to win Anastis, the Trantean girl he had wanted; so he takes off in an airship to make his way back to Rijovalud, where there's a girl who _does_ want him.
Alacles and Theocrites are looking back at the times of Mo'ajin and Yu'ura as figures from a legendary past, the way we might read biographies of George Washington or Daniel Boone. Gaps in my own manuscripts _compel_ me to treat this past as fragmented. For instance, Volume One of the Mo'ajin saga was titled "The Five Dreams of Mo'ajin," but I can definitely remember only the first and fifth dreams. For the island-based adventure called "An Eyelid to the Arrow," I do mostly remember the cast of characters, but I forget some specifics. While on Dawn Shield, Mo'ajin's nominal commanding officer, the swordsman Lord Bu'ekira, is publicly embarrassed when, as he was about to go too far exercising his authority, Mo'ajin is able to overpower him at close quarters.
After Mo'ajin _appears_ to die defeating the Viking-like invaders. Lady Tsingchee, the whale-caller who's had enough of abuse from her narcissistic husband, smuggles Mo'ajin away and assigns a whale to tow him back south to Pemyo-Kuan (the northernmost of three provinces constituting the Kuanese empire's main island). Mo'ajin's kid brother Fu'ashin becomes aware of the danger to Mo'ajin from Bu'ekira's grudge-holding. So Fu'ashin pretends not to recognize Mo'ajin, even punching Mo'ajin in the face, to put the bad guys off the trail.
Left on his own, Mo'ajin forms a secret hero-fraternity, the Boar's Tusk Warriors: thus named because Mo'ajin is hard-muscled, compact of build, low center of gravity, _made_ to take taller men off their feet. This ultimately leads to Mo'ajin teaming up with Prince Yu'ura to prevent evil elder brother Koya'anu from taking the Kuanese throne. Having lost his wife Hiensuhing, Mo'ajin is offered a marriage to Princess Akiujai, but he won't stand for any woman being _forced_ to marry him. There ensues a multi-volume epic...... ALL of which is reviewed in retrospect by Theocrites and Alacles.
FUN FACT: I first coined the name Theocrites after seeing the _word_ "theocriticism." Another fun fact: The character of Mo'ajin is a decades-early prototype of Alipang Havens.
